I'm more worried about framerate.

A pretty/ugly game aint shyt with a choppy framerate
I gotta agree with this. A steady framerate (be it 30, 45 or 60) is really important. Jumping from 60 to 37 or some shyt isn't acceptable. I'm not a hardcore 60fps or nothing gamer, but I want something relatively steady. a 10 fps dip is okay, but more than that it starts to feel choppy and jerky. And all the pc gamers know about watch dog stutters and far cry 4 stutters (though they actually fixed FC4)

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Game is fukking amazing. I spent so much time playing it with my boys. I remember nintendo power sending me a vhs of the development team making the game. I wish I still had it...the case was green with the jungle theme.
I still play it to this day..I even remember how much I paid for it when it dropped...shyt was just groundbreaking to me the first time I played it..from the graphics..to the gameplay..to the art style..to the music..everything was perfection to me..

Design and artstyle >>>>> graphics imo. Nothing like playing a game with some really unique and clever design.

Of course gameplay/challenge are always the most important things. Which is why stuff like Spelunky, Guacamelee and Hotline Miami is :blessed: to me and a lot of the new AAA stuff is :ld:.
This is an example of a game with basically primitive graphics but it's gameplay and other things(presentation and music) redeems itself.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
I want graphics that can properly immerse me into the world that the dev strives to create. Often times a game with bad graphics just won't draw me in and that creates a problem for me. I can honestly say that Driveclub for example immerses me like no other because the graphics in motion at times create a feeling that just wouldn't be there had the graphics been compromised.

This just adds that :wow: feeling when playing.
Edit: Great artstyle + great graphics=Immersion.
Bad artstyle + great graphics= :ld:
bad graphics = Needs other things to redeem itself.

i agree 150%

i wouldn't sacrifice gameplay for graphics... but i'll damn sure sacrifice an entire game for some bullshyt graphics

it's like going back and watching tube tv after you just finished with the new 4k... you never knew it was that bad, until you're watching some 1985 movie in bluray like :merchant:

that's how i feel looking at that skyrim pic... or the new gta pics from PC... like motherfukkers got the same gameplay we got, with 5000% better graphics and higher framerate

now while i'm not gonna pay for that.... it's still some bullshyt that hurts to look at when i spin up 360 skyrim and it looks like some shyt but plays the exact same

I've been playing more 'old school' looking games than anything.

I'll take a dip in graphics quality for a steady frame rate whether it's 30 or 60. It has to be in 1080p though otherwise it just looks too awkward for my taste.

If I was that concerned about graphics I'm better off just watching tech demos and let's plays instead of just playing the actual game

It just depends on execution and what devs are striving for as far as atmosphere and universe go. If the game is kind of goofy and going more for humor or just being a game rooted in non-sense(Saints Row, Borderlands), I don't need super realistic graphics and such and I think that allows for more unique looking games. If the game is trying to be more story-driven, or push more for immersion(Skyrim, Mass Effect), I wouldn't want them to give me some cell-shaded animated games, I want the graphics to reflect what they're trying to convey.

I don't expect JRPG's to push graphical boundaries the same way I don't expect racing simulators to place less emphasis on realism.

I can rattle off a bunch of SNES games that crush current gen games. Graphics ain't nothin' but shades and textures. The best games have a strong story that makes you care about the characters with strong gameplay to support it.
