living in new york i was already hyped off X and expected big things from him. as we all know he was heavy on the mixtape scene with nore and canibus so his name was ringing out. but never, ever did i expect the quality of music he delivered on this near perfect album

first time hearing it i was in the military with 3 of my homeboys. 2 from memphis and one from new orleans and they HATED new york rap lol. we were in the day room and from the first track we all just kinda looked at each other like we were in for something special. we listened in virtual silence beginning to end and agreed that we just heard a classic

admittedly i'm conflicted about one song though and thats x is coming. the rape line man smh, i cant cosign that line so i generally skip that song. pretty much like biggie with whats beef and the shyt he said about kids. thats my only gripe with x's masterpiece, other than that its a tremendous achievement

Yeah in retrospect it's crazy that song didn't cause more controversy than it did. Biggie just had a couple of bars but X basically devoted half a verse to it. I'm conflicted though because besides that verse the rest of the song is dope and so is the beat.

Just goes to show how much crazy shyt used to be in lyrics on albums. That verse would have derailed his entire career if it dropped now.

And if you got a daughter older then 15, I'ma rape her
Take her on the living room floor, right there in front of you
Then ask you seriously, whatchu wanna do?
Frustrating, isn't it? When they kill me, but I'ma kill you
Now watch me fukk just a little while longer, please, will you?

Some of the craziest shyt ive ever heard:mindblown:

Just bumped entirely.

I Can Feel It

Edit: not to derail this thread but the lack of Swizz on this (he only did RR Anthem) makes me even more annoyed at how much he was ALL over flesh of my flesh blood of my blood...I wish they’d kept the same producers. X could’ve had 2 classics in one year.

In retrospect there really hasn't been an album quite like this. It had the production values of the jiggy era, but never managed to lose it's dark and gritty tone, I mean even the 'love' songs were almost like a reprieve from the darkness more than anything else. This album and Capital Punishment ran the summer of 98 for me.

Man I thought I was in the minority in thinking Swizz fukked up Flesh Of My Flesh.

His beats start to wear on you like an orchestra in discord

I can remember the day I first got It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot because it was the same time I first got a Sony Discman. I was 15-years-old and I had to order it into my local record store because DMX hadn't yet blown up so was considered a niche artist.
:duck:
shyt was number one first week.
Where the fukk was the author from that he had to special order it?

People said Eminem was the reason why white people loves hip-hop. I told them wrong it was DMX. DMX was the reason why white people love hip-hop cause when I went to high school. these fukking white kids...I mean almost all of white kids have DMX albums in their cd collection before Eminem. shyt had me :wtf:

They also have Juvenile 400 Degreez too. Mostly it was DMX's IDAHIH and Juvenile 400 Degreez in their cd collection,
White people loved hip hop Way before DMX Breh.
