I just spent like 4 hours playing this and the level of freedom is retarded. I'm just randomly trying stuff and seeing what happens....I'm surprised I haven't broken the game yet.

@daze23 how did you escape Fort Joy? I finally escaped, I want to see how different our experiences were.

Fred.
I went through the dungeon (part of the Soul Jar quest). the Houndmaster was kicking my ass, so I ended up sneaking around and stealing the key. come to think of it, I wanted to go back when I leveled up a little and try that fight again, but I forgot before I left the island :yeshrug:

I used the key to go upstairs, found and destroyed the Soul Jar, and went back to complete that quest. then I went back to that castle area, explored a little more, and found a way out the back. I had to fight a few magisters on the way out

Yeah, they get a few abilities later in the game....and in part 2 Armor obviously shields a lot of the status effects like Burning, Frozen, etc....but it doesn't change the fact that jobs with magic ain't gotta deal with any of that.:francis:

Fred.
yeah, a lot of strategies from the first game just don't work anymore because of the armor. kinda better I guess cause you can't just cheese every fight with a couple ooze barrels

one thing I noticed is that even though the armor will protect them from various status effects, they will still avoid walking through fire. so you can still use fire as a barrier, choke point, etc

Speaking of walking through fire, how do you avoid your party members being retarded and walking through poison traps during general adventuring???

they usually won't if someone in your party spotted the trap. you can always separate your party, and lead each member around it

but damage outside of combat isn't that big of a deal, cause you can just use a bedroll to quickly heal your whole party

You know whats really bugging me though? When you find a quest person, but then Oh I forgot its for the lizard guy, and I dropped his ass for the Dwarf....so now I drop the dwarf, find the lizard talk to the quest guy, drop the lizard, bring back the dwarf.

Lottttt of busy work just cause I wanna complete quests for various characters. I wish you could just have the whole crew, keep it 4 in battle, but just have the rest in reserve so I dont have to keep dropping and picking up party members.

That's kind of the point though....it's not designed like most RPGs where you should or can complete all the side quests. No spoilers but a few of the people in your party will beef later on if you try to complete all their quests....some aren't possible to complete for everyone. Some will get mad at you if you complete another character's quest first, too.

Side note, that elf chick Sebille is fukking nuts.

Yeah I kind of figured beef between members would happen. But it really seems like early game you need to do more because your equipment and characters suck. Theres not really any enemies I can grind so I gotta run through the quests. Im wondering though when you reach a new area will the party members not in your crew be located elsewhere in your new area or the same place on the prison island? Its hard to keep track of these guys.

Also are you saying its fine to just run with your crew of 4 and just leave the rest behind??? Feel like I'll be underlevelled :patrice:

You can get a decent chunk of EXP just finding new areas. I don't know where you are in the game but there's a ton of places in Fort Joy and the island that you can get EXP from discovering.

As far as I know the party members will be where you last left them. But you don't necessarily have to keep track of them....there is multiple characters you can pick up along the way. The game is designed more like a journey than your usual RPG.

I'm currently level 5 and just left Fort Joy, the enemies in the surrounding areas are 5-6. You know how there isn't any enemies to grind? Well that also means you'll never be underleveled. The game tightly controls how much EXP you get so you're never really under/over leveled unless you back track to earlier areas or go way the fukk out in the middle of nowhere.

at the end of act 1, you have a chance to change up your party, and respec anyone. but after that you're stuck with what you chose

this game is crazy cause I feel like I'm constantly breaking the game. I think up a crazy solution to a problem (usually the "problem" is getting my ass kicked), and it actually works. shyt is so open, in a way it's like the 'biggest' game I ever played

Yeah I feel the same way which is why I asked how you got off the island.

I'm at the point where I can leave the island but I won't for a while. I still got a bunch of random stuff to do. It's kinda weird how you can't return though....didn't expect that from a design stand point.

Anyway, I need to get back into this. I been playing the fukk out of "Battle Chasers".

I bytched out and put this on easy. Right after getting out of Fort joy and did a long ass fight, left me with 2 rez scrolls....I was just like, ya know fukk it. The battles are cool but if I have to reload a 20 minute fight cause I made an error or exhausted too many resources than I feel like Im wasting my time. :yeshrug:
