having kobe, one of the best perimeter defenders back in the day, call you the toughest cover in the league isn't elite???

damn near averaging 30 a game isn't elite??

gonna go down as one of the nba's all time leading scorers isn't elite??

being able to drop 28 a game while IVERSON does the bulk of the scoring/handling isn't elite???

now me personally, i think melo could put more effort into defense, but i'm not gonna sit here and act like dude has had the best opportunities in the world because its the exact opposite. Lets be real, dude was 2 inbound passes away from getting to the finals where they would of faced that magic team....also lets not forget that BOTH years he's been in ny injuries have hurt the team during playoffs......last year i think they could of beat the celtics if billups and amare weren't hurt....melo still went H.A.M. on those celtics, because he was the only guy who could score.....same with this year..Amare wanna go he-man on some damn fire extinguisher and lin gets hurt......they weren't gonna beat the heat anyway but you get my drift

unless lebron gets injured, i can't see melo winning a ring on that team, unless they trade amare for some pieces. However i'm not gonna act like you guys and be like melo can't play or devalue him. I swear some of you should be shot for the asinine statements i'm reading.

Ability doesn't make you elite, production does. I dont' think anyone will deny that Melo is an elite scorer it's his overall game that warrants questions. Still it's odd for a guy to be crowned as best scorer in the game or possessor of best offensive skillset and have 0 scoring titles in 9 years. All this talk about his clutch and how many close playoff games have his teams lost?

You can talk all you want about injuries but their is no excuse for a team with Melo and Amare and Tyson being a fukkin 7th seed unless one of them missed the entire season. Not gonna say he can't play just saying he isn't the franchise guy that some make him out to be. He could be, he has all the tools, but thus far he has not been on a consistent basis.

Anyway I for one never bought this whole "best scorer", that's some bs. For me Melo was never gonna be in that Kobe-Bron-Dirk-Nash-KG category, he just doens't have that kind of talent and/or work ethic. Problem is that he has way too much talent to just be a regular 2nd option, so he's kind of stuck in no man's land.

What REALLY pisses me off with Melo is that when really going at it he's a solid rebounder, above-average defender (don't hate) and average passer, while staying a very good scorer. Still not enough to be MVP material, but more than what he usually shows us.

It feels like he hasn't yet found the right situation in which to play. That doesn't mean he hasn't had good teammates/coaches, he's had both, but maybe not necessarily those who "fit". And he hasn't been able to adapt his game enough to his teammates. That's not going to change in NY unfortunately, I feel he's beasting most when playing at the 4 but then we've still got Amar'e

That's talking about SCORING and scoring only. How many elite all around seasons has he had?

yea that's true, i'll agree. I guess since he hasn't put it all together in the way we all feel he can, it's hard to put him into that ELITE tier. I think well hope that seeing Bron getting it done this past season and getting another Olympic Gold will inspire him this year. I think having some stability after all of last season will help as well

the reason he's better than Lebron, Durant, McGrady, and Pierce when it comes to scoring is because he can score easily from anywhere on the court. The reason ppl put his scoring above Kobe and Dirk in terms of scoring is because he can overpower guards and is faster than big men. You're confusing the end result with the actual process of scoring.

lol @ Melo isn't seeing Lebron when it comes to scoring...man stop. Lebron scores off of freakish athletic ability, not skill. That's why Melo usually gives him buckets when they go head to head.

I don't think its odd at all. He did play in the same era with Kobe, Lebron, Durant, and AI. Its more than a few top flight scorers who don't have scoring titles.
