Terrible movies make bank all the time when they are part of successful franchieses. Look at Lion King - everyone agrees that movie is worthless and it still made tons of money. Do you believe it's false that Disney laid off the marketing team? That they were focused on controlling costs at the premier?
Either way, the reason that Dark Phoenix flopped isn't particularly important, because Disney is going to keep making lots of movies EXACTLY like Dark Phoenix. You really think they're going to stop making big budget superhero sequels? We can all see the real issue coming from a mile away - they're cynically using Dark Phoenix's flop to cut off funding for any risky and interesting movies coming through the pipeline.
EA gets more shyt for their predatory practices than what happened to ME. When gamers went off on the ending of ME 3 they went after Bioware not EA. The complaint to the FTC, BBB (and others) and even the petition to have the ending changed was all directed to Bioware :justwhy:.
I'm saying the same people saying "but Disney laid off the marketing team!" wouldn't even know that if not for this article because again....there was a full press tour, multiple trailers, TV spots, interviews leading up to "Dark Phoenix".
As far as the rest of the movies....I guarantee 99.99% of the people in this thread complaining about all this never seen "Stuber". Cats are acting like Fox handed Disney cinematic gold or something.
Fred.
For me, it’s less about the movies they cited as unferperformers and more about their entire philosophy as a studio at this point. No risk, nothing new, just going to the well with what’s worked before and playing everything very safe. Movie making by computer
This is why I compared it to the EA/Bioware shyt. The point you're trying to make is 100% accurate and I'd fully agree with it but "they cut the marketing for 'Stuber'!" is not the route to go here. Cats did not give a single solitary fukk about any of the movies listed including "Dark Phoenix".
Fred.
I haven't seen Dark Phoenix but the X-Men franchise was a hit under FOX for the most part. X-Men Days of Future Past did over $700M at the box office. Logan did exceptionally well, it was nominated for an Oscar in writing. The Deadpool movies cost nothing to make and ended up making well over $700M at the box office as well.
Deadpool is actually one of the more profitable franchises around because the movies have a very low budget.
I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that FOX ruined that franchise, they clearly did not. They did have some shytty movies in there but the hits were big hits.
I legit was entertained by Stuber but if it flopped then :bugsshrug:Yeah that’s stupid. Now if you saw Stuber and fukked with it, be mad about that. But you’re missing the forest for the trees if you’re cherry picking movies from this article or any article on the subject. Tears will not be shed for Dark Phoenix or stuber but should be for the larger implications
Man you gotta be trolling with all this. Either that or you never really gave a fukk about the X-Men.
Fox 100% ran that franchise into the ground.
Made Cyclops, the actual leader of the X-Men, into Wolverine's bytch.
Made Mystique the leader of the X-Men based solely on Jennifer's Lawrence's stardom.
Ruined not one....but two of the greatest X-Men arcs in history (Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix).
fukked up the continuity so bad they had to reboot it 2-3 times.
Had the entire X-Men and it's expanded universe for two decades and focused on the same 10-15 characters. To the point that people are tired of Magneto. Which is insane when you think about it.
There is some gems in there but Fox had tarnished the brand so bad prior to "Dark Phoenix" that a god damned Antman movie made more money than "Apocalypse".
Fred.
Well damn...
Disney barely got back what FOX put into Dark Phoenix from the box office.
Tbh, though I wouldn't be mad if they canned New Mutants altogether or put that shyt on Netflix. I'm glad Marvel has taken X-Men & Fantastic 4 away from FOX after what they did to those last 3 movies. Deadpool might have to get put on the back burner.
Surprised that Devon Franklin movie made a huge profit. I didn’t see any promotion at all for it.
It looks like maybe Disney will make Deadpool a show like Daredevil.
lmaoooo look at this disney man child.
