Dionne Warwick not convinced that Beyonce is a classic or iconic artist with a classic catalogue

Her lens is off though. People who heard her songs growing up can still sing them. Kids not exposed to them, do not know her music like that :usure:

But kids in this era, can sing "Say My Name" "Bills Bills Bills" "Survivor" and can definitely sing "Independent woman" "Bootylicious" (:dame:) and countless others when the songs come on, and those songs are 15-20 years old already

Crazy in Love still gets spun at most weddings and that came out in 2003
Single Ladies gets burn and it came out in 2008

etc. etc.

You can't hate on Beyonce just because she's not old, yet. That's silly

What also needs to be acknowledged is that there were far fewer acts getting play, and far fewer things to do in general in the past. Shyt in the 1970s...kids would literally spend hours just sitting and listening to the radio. Music as a medium has changed. Beyonce is as timeless as we are going to get in 2000s microwave attention span generation :manny:
/ thread

Dionne is timeless but so is Beyoncé it really depends on who you ask

As far as albums are concerned neither is an album artist

In fact if you break it down very few artists across genres have great albums

Old ass bytch

And all y’all nikkas talking shyt couldn’t name 5 Peonne Whoreick songs

Facts... Some have already touched on it, but a big reason why artists from back when had catalogues that span generations is because as black people in the 50s-80s, we all listened to the same music regardless of generation/age.... You at 9 years old , your pops and your 50 year old uncle would get crunk when atomic dog came on... Your mom, 11 year old sister, and Grandmother would tell everybody to hush so they could sing along with any Diana Ross joint....... if your mama cleaned house while playing the Delphonics.. you as a child grew to love and appreciate that group.... sheit.... we used to bump Lenny Williams in the mid/late 90s through our sound systems because we knew he was cold, and we were teenagers

Edit: @Killmonger, you didn’t have to call her an old ass bytch tho.... :dead:

Let's keep it real. Most of her fandom from casuals is primarily focused on looks and sexual gyrations on stage unlike most top black iconic artists who weren't overly sexual except maybe janet.

This is the exact way elvis was described in his own time breh. I know hes not a black female but i think you get my overall premise.

No matter what you type, her destiny's child tracks are superior to her solo work despite a lot of questionable lyrics on those joints. Mj's solo work is on par with the jackson 5 stuff.

Are you serious? Stop it dude. That 1984 private dancer album alone is superior to many artists whole catalogue. I still know the lyrics to all the songs and I haven't listened to that shyt since the early 90s.

:rudy: and MC hammer's album sold twice as much, went diamond...doesn't mean it was a classic

Tina Turner was a huge arena/concert artist just like beyonce is, but like tina turner, they ain't about to shift the cultural landscape with their music

Shangri-La
Parts of her statement I agree with but she def goes out of her way to shade Bey, for example I wouldn’t say it’s a “long road” to legendary. Now if you strip the visuals and just stick to the music there is quite a bit to be desired. I’m a casual fan (as in I don’t listen often at all) who does know her entire catalog.

She's from an era that had nothing but radio play and juke boxes. We are in a whole different time of media, people don't consume music just on the radio anymore. So its silly to think this generation is gonna have these same types of songs, but what Beyonce has done musically will be remembered and appreciated for many years to come.

Beyoncé has more Grammys, more # 1 hits, more sold out shows, higher grossing tours, and more record sales than Dione whorebytch. Their career accolades aren’t even close. Beyoncé first went platinum over 21 years ago and is still a top name in music.
