I don’t even think that’s why. I think it doesn’t work because like damn near every movie after part 1, excluding part 3, it treats john like a superhero. He’s not. The appeal of john is he’s a regular guy who has the worst luck. He’s a straight up superhero in 2, 4 and 5. But more so 5 than any others. And that makes everything less. The action is less. The drama is less. The tension is less. Because mcclane is impervious to harm and invincible

He was no more a superhero in part 2 than he was in 3. Come on duke. John was jumping on moving subway trains, riding dump trucks, surviving a 150 ft drops, explosions and car wrecks

Not getting blown up out of planes. Not being one step ahead of everyone. He was a boozed out wreck the entire movie barely holding shyt together and barely piecing shyt together. Simon was always several steps ahead. And he barely survived all of that shyt. In part 2 he’s basically Bruce Wayne
