it's racist because none of those black artists back in the day who got robbed every got their money.....the only started caring about sampling once hip hop came along. If cacs made hip hop they'd treat sampling like covering songs....a standard fee. Thats how sampling should be
nah, some of the Black artists from that era were savvy enough and had enough leverage to retain rights and ownership of masters .Some later sued and won back their rights. The late Michael Jackson also purchased and gave back some of the rights to the pioneers.
At any rate....that would have nothing to do with sampling because the older Black artists who DID retain rights, publishing, masters were the first ones taking a stand from the theft
Again, Black artists were among the first ones to get jerked when hip hop got on wax.The early songs sampled the records that used to play in parties, and used some of the same breaks that kids used to dance to. James Brown and the JBs records are LITERALLY the foundation of the artform.
Here is James Mtume talking about the early days of sampling, his demand on people who sample his music, and his views on it.
These Black artists were protecting themselves from RECORD companies who used, sold, and profited from THEIR creativity.
