Responses in here are typical, but understand that Sting HAD to sue. He literally had no choice.

Had Sting not sued, he would have essentially relinquished rights to his own song. It goes like this: if you don’t protect your copyrights and trademarks you lose em for all intents and purposes.

So say Sting let diddy slide. Well, if 5 other people came after and sampled ‘missing you’, and sting decided to protect it then, the judge would ask Sting, “why didn’t you sue the first time it was sampled?”. It almost becomes public domain.

No one is going to even ask why diddy didn’t bother to clear the sample? He took not only the beat, but the melody, the chorus, and the signature lyrics in the hook. That’s insane. fukk does racism have to do with puff’s arrogance and incompetence?

breh, Sting was well within his right to let that hammer fly on Puff

fukk Bad Boy as a staff, record label and a crew

Chino XL, fukk you too!!!!!!!

I thought Diddy would've been smarter than this. Dude will be paying for Sting's grandkids, grandkids :huhldup:

you could say it was a small price to pay to capitalize on BIG’s death and launch his own career into orbit but paying Sting until 2053 is insane. shyt is worse than Bonilla Day

your math is horribly off even if you take the numbers cited @ face value...it’ll be close to $40M which is still a great deal of $$$ just for letting someone use a song
Nikka I was off by a 0! Your math is wayyyy the fukk off.

Where the hell did you get 40 mil from?!

It's 24 mil (not 240 mil like I initially stated).

2,000 x 365 x 33 = 24 mil not no damn 40 mil. :mjlol::camby:

Like making it rain every day on schedule :picard:

At this point, Hip-Hop is rich enough to go back to instruments. Pay musicians to create original music for you in the studio.

This comes with it's own nightmares. Dealing with musicians is no small thing. James Brown had to be a taskmaster for a reason. Electronic sampling was a godsend for a lot of people because it cut out all the middlemen.

And middlemen hate being cut out, especially lawyers who get to eat just for watching popular culture and making sure nobody's stuff sounds like what they're hoarding.
