During ww2, there are accounts of several incidents in the UK involving Black US soldiers wanting to drink in pubs and being stopped from doing so,not by the british civilians but by US army officers. There was a notorious case in wales UK where there was actually a physical fight between black us soldiers, white welsh miners, and the pub landlord, vs white us soldiers. The pub landlord resented being told who he could and couldn't serve in his pub by foreigners .In the end the welsh and blacks won, and the black soldiers could drink in the pub.
It amazes me, that you could fight for your country and still be treated like a second class citizen. There is also the story of the black soldiers taken prisoner by the waffen ss of all people, and they were surprised that the ss actually treated them better than whites in america did and they were not shot or sent to concentration camps but were simply sent to work on german farms until the end of the war where they were well treated.
I can't say I have any sympathy for those white civilians that were killed, they brought it all on themselves. If the enemy might treat you better than your own side, that must be extremely difficult to deal with.
