If you were around wrestling during that tine you knew the rock wanted no parts of being known in Hollywood as the The rock.

You see the way cm punk, HHH, & Cena hate on him for that decision several years later. No doubt wrestlers back then were hating more so out of envy than anything else.

Those are not great numbers

:what:

The Game Plan and the Tooth Fairy are undeniably great numbers. They made a ton of money off low budgets.

You claimed he had bombs, but the only film that you could say he had in the period before he came back to WWE that was a bomb was Faster, which was a low budget R rated revenge flick. His movies were critically panned, but they were making money. Trust, if he was churning out a bunch of bombs they wouldn't have kept giving him leading roles in movies.

Actually he only stopped going by "The Rock" when WWE fukked up and didn't renew his contract. He was pissed off about it and dropped the name.

Word was that HHH was legit fostering an environment where people were hating on the Rock for leaving. Notice that those guys that end up getting their break outside of wrestling too immediately change their tune, start apologizing to Rock, and start realizing how fukked up things actually are in WWE.

CM Punk would get mad as shyt whenever someone would bring up his time in WWE when he was preparing for his UFC match.

Cena has recently mentioned how difficult it is to act and get cleared by insurance companies to wrestle at the same time.

Batista actively encourages other wrestlers to leave WWE and start acting so they don't have to deal with the bullshyt. :mjlol:

he was resented by SOME fans. people tend to over exaggerate it for whatever reason. he was booed 3 times audibly in 2002. vs Hogan at mania in toronto, vs Brock in New york(everyone knew he was leaving after that match), and that award show that he didn't appear live at, which was also in new york. no where else was he booed or received any negative reaction outside of those smark cities full of whiteboy nerds, neckbeards, and jealous folks.

as for wrestlers, I'm sure no one was mad about him leaving to go to hollywood. wrestling was a different animal then, the boys looked at it as an opportunity to take that spot.

If he goes by the name ...the rock...he boxes himself in and is simply gonna be seen as that. The rock is a character not his name

Yeah I mean for the folks that loved that 99-00 Rock, he wasnt the same during that 2001-2002 window for them but it wasnt some crazy backlash. You can count on one hand the number of times Rock got booed as a face in that 2001-2002 range. Some of it was smarkyness, some of it was people being tired of him, some of it was people resenting him for leaving.

I will say that 7 year timeframe that Rock was away was crazy online. Everywhere you turned there were people talking about how much of a sellout he was. People saying he should just come back one more time. for one more match. One more promo. Dude has done that and way more. Now those same people are all he buries talent. Rock isnt the Rock anymore hes Dwayne lol

You can count on that same hand the number of good movies he's made

But that's another thread :iseeu:

HHH is full of shyt. He was trying to do the same thing, it's just that it never took off for him. He was doing guest spots on the fukking Drew Carey Show, had that small role in Blade Trinity, and was pushing HARD to get a role in a Conan movie.

First of all, I think this beef between HHH and Rock is blown way out of proportion. Secondly, I just dont see HHH moving on from the company even if he did become a successful movie star. With him being married to Stephanie, he was always going to be involved
