YOU USE NUMBERS BECAUSE NUMBERS ARE CIRCUMSTANTIAL AND CAN BE USED IN MULTIPLE WAYS
LIKE IF I TOLD U THAT IN GAME 6 THE SECOND LEADING SCORER WAS LAMAR WIT 14 POINTS, IT CREATES MORE OF AN EXPLANATION TO TRUE BASKETBALL ENTHUSIASTS
“OH THATS WHY THE DEFENSE WAS ABLE TO KEY IN ON KOBE!! NOBODY ELSE ON THE TEAM WAS GIVING U 20+ POINTS!!”
lol, Kobe was mostly single-covered by Ray Allen that game and occasionally Rondo. He took 22 shots compared to just 1 assist. If the defense was as "keyed in" on him as you claim, he would have been taking fewer shots and passing to the open player. Part of the reason that Boston's defense could collapse on Kobe with no fear was because he was averaging 22 shots/game to only 5 assists/game that series.
And in Game 5, it was Kobe 25, Odom 20, and Pau 19. So claiming "the defense could key in on Kobe because no one else was giving them 20" doesn't even make sense. Three different players had given them 20 in the previous game alone.
THATS WHY BASKETBALL PURISTS RARELY RELY ON NUMBERS TO TELL A STORY.
"Basketball purist" is a meaningless phrase that doesn't mean anything except "the people who agree with me".
THIS ALSO HELPS EXPLAIN THE FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KOBE N BRON.. PUT BRON IN KOBES PLACE IN 2008 AND BRON WOULD BE CALLIN THE FRONT OFFICE TO BLOW UP THE TEAM N POSSIBLY TRADE PAU, FIRE PHIL JACKSON ETC… NO WAY HE TAKES IT UPON HIMSELF TO BEAT SOME TOUGHNESS INTO PAU ALA KOBE
You mean the same Bron who was playing with a far WORSE team in 2008 and didn't call anyone to blow up anything?
2008 Bron pushed that sames Celtics squad to 7 games despite limping 33yo Zydrunas Iglauskas averaging 11.9ppg as his #2. Boston's defense was COMPLETELY keyed in on him, and he was defended by Paul Pierce who is a far better defender than Ray Allen. Yet Bron put up 45 points and 6 assists in barely losing Game 7 (a surprise shooting outburst by James Posey was the only reason Boston won by 5). If a 23yo Bron could do that with the defense "keyed in" on him, why couldn't peak Kobe do better than 22 and 1?
Remember, this whole exchange was based on the claim that "Kobe went out like a g" in the 2008 Finals. 22 and 1 on 31% shooting with 4 turnovers while setting the record for the worst elimination loss in Finals history. Riiiiiight.
