They didn’t start that shyt
:mjlol:

If that’s the case blame BBD
:dead:

I was just thinking that Jodeci, Mary, etc we’re just the natural evolution of new Jack swing. Lol the blame can go to boys II men, BBD, all the way back to parliament if we play that game. I feel like the “I’m not a rapper” shyt bled into R&b a little too much. But it is what it is now. The good stuff exists it’s just not pushed to the front anymore.

There's more than enough traditional R&B but the demographic isn't big enough to have the big record labels put the machine behind it,plus why would they when the current toxicity in urban music is making them money hand over fist from the most profitable demographic in history due to their gullibility and access to technology.

Jodeci killed R&B.

Yeah, I said it. What? They were dope and talented but you can trace back all the modern buffoonery to this four piece who blended hip hop with R&B and polluted the stream. That said:

:dj2:

All that follows has to up the ante in order to stimulate the receptors of those fatigued by what they've seen and we end up with what we've got because singers didn't want to be seen as "soft".

Strongly disagree. Those first 3 albums are great. These nikkas today ain’t even singing that well.

True, cause they were all in gospel groups
Yup.

Landing a recording deal in 1991, the group released their debut album Forever My Ladythat same year. Writer Ronin Ro maintained, "They no longer resembled gospel singers… Puffy also asked them to build their mystique by posing for photos with their backs to the camera, which he borrowed from Guy's stage show."
And the rest as they say was history. :francis:

I fukks with Jodeci’s music heavy, but after each album, they promoted that “thuggish” image even more. The skits on their third album were just :scust:

Thug & Blues became the wave. I feel like Neo-Soul was made she thrived to counter it. Just like “conscious” rap did in response to gangsta rap.

Either you missed my point or are being deliberately obtuse. Let me put it another way:

Pac screaming Hit Em Up dropped the seed that would bloom into Drill a few generations later. If you agree then you see what I mean, if you don't thats cool too. Do you.

All roads lead to Diddy. Someone already mentioned Joedci but Diddy is responsible for the death of R&B and partial death of HipHop.

@Complexion you’re right. Jodeci were apart of it changing but Diddy is the one who moulded their image.

The Bad Boy curse strikes again!

It all does tie into that 93 hard core trend though because the game was changing. I spoke in that thread about how it partly reflects something in the people as well as sparking it within as well. Either way its interesting because if you trace the roots of the modern devolution it all traces back to what we enjoyed back when.

In 40 years they'll do the same as they listen to someone bleating like R2D2 on meth over the sound of DNA being hollowed out.

Major record labels killed black R&B and replaced it with non-black R&B.
Amy Winehouse, Bruno Mars, Adele, Sam Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Robin Thicke, both Justins….

And notice, most of them were backed and co-signed by black producers/artists. Easy to blame the record labels but we let them in our house. The Country music industry is not as welcoming.
