We have people still dying in custody without ever being charged with a crime. We have people being locked up for bullshyt drug crimes so we can have cheap prison labor. The government and business interests of this country are working hand and hand to demolish legal protests. We have American Muslims still being spied on for no other reason than being Muslim. We have the TSA making 89 year olds take off their adult diapers to be stripped searched. We have Americans, mainly Black Americans, now having to deal with voting issues at the polls. We have a Justice Department that did not prosecute known Wall Street criminals and torture suspects. We have a drone programming operating outside of legal sovereignty that has killed 200 children in the last 10 years. Our tuition rates are obscenely high. Our standing in the world in terms of education is falling dramatically in key areas. We have to import STEM fields. The labor movement is on the brink of collapse.

We made progress in a lot of areas, and they were just replaced with other obstacles, a couple of which are directly a result of the Obama Administration's governance.

The young Turks are a bunch of partisan clowns. I actually love Cenk's show though, but the supporting cast are all nothing more than pussified liberals with dangerous ideas for the country. But his supporting cast is insufferable. Anna Kasparian is a nitwit...just eye candy. That professor Tricia Rose is just a stereotypical academic feminist and doesn't say anything new. And Jayar Jackson is annoying as fukk to me. The way he looks...the way he talks...everything. He is one of the corniest nikkas breathing...on TV everyday with an Erykah Badu headwrap and some Clark Kent glasses. He probably he has an incense holder behind his desk...fukk outta here.

It isn't just me saying it either, there are multiple people with much better handle and grasp of the situation pointing this out. Hell, if I remember on the old site, you had a major gripe with the democrats conceding before they get to the negotiating table.

It's pure weakness and you know it. The President campaigned and won on 250 K, had the upper hand in the situation, and at the end of the day still ended up tap dancing.

I wouldn't have budged an inch and asked for more. Kept social programs in order, cut the military spending, increased the tax rate starting at 250k, I would have asked to increase the capital gains and dividend tax rates to much higher than 20% for the highest brackets, among many other things.

So, why am I feeling so despondent, and why do so many other progressives, like Noam Scheiber, feel the same? Because of the way Obama negotiated. He gave every indication of being more or less desperate to cut a deal before the year ended — even though going over the fiscal cliff was not at all a drop-dead moment, since we could have gone weeks or months without much real economic damage.

Now, given his evident antsiness to cut a deal in this case, how credible is his promise to hang tough over the debt ceiling, which is a much brighter red line? He may say that he absolutely, positively won’t negotiate over the ceiling — but nothing in his past behavior makes that believable.
