I think you're missing my point as well as anyone else
who quoted me.
Not everyone has a $1000 dollars lying around for a
laptop especially when you can buy a desk top that out performs
that same laptop at the same price.
I bought a decent laptop because I didn't need a gaming laptop.
I've got consoles that were created for the sole purpose of playing videogames on top of that I get exclusives that'll never land on a pc.
Will I have to play certain games at a lower resolution ? Yes.
Will some games run at lower frame rates ? Yes.
Does that hamper my ability to enjoy these games ? No.
I'm certain I can build a $1000 PC with a good recent GPU, a
nice amount of ram, huge hard drives etc. but for that same $1000
I can buy a ton of games for sh1t I already own.
I respect your opinion, but if you are a gamer you are actually paying more in the long run for a console. Consoles have static hardware and you end up paying more for each game individually if you build up a massive collection as many people do. This is not even throwing XBOX Live into the equation.
Do you have a convenience factor? A bit, but then again realize that it only takes 4 minutes to swap out a graphics card and be good to go if you build a desktop with future upgrades in mind. My PC started out at a $280 budget build and with some quick updates will last me throughout the entire console generation with ease. Like I've told people before...PC gaming is a whole different ballgame. I am play Max Payne 3 right now with a $50 CPU and a midrange video card damn near maxed out. The beauty of it all? When I do decide to drop $70 for a cpu I can sell this one in my desktop for $30. If I want to upgrade the video card? I can drop this one for about $90 easy to put it towards a $200 card. Minimal costs to remain among the elite all things considered.
Take a look at the latest games and what they are going for right now in the market:
Tomb Raider - $23-$27
Crysis 3 - $25-$30
BioShock Infinite - $25-$30
On consoles? Even if you hit up amazon to buy them new you are looking at $160 while someone on the PC will pay about $73 for all of them AND have the superior versions of the games. You guys are so concerned about the entry cost when it doesn't have to be that way. That $87 savings is common across the board if you know how to shop.
BUT, if you are a very casual gamer...someone who buys maybe 1 game a year? Yeah it might be a wise investment to just deal with the consoles, but even then I am willing to bet that the savings won't be significant
