“You know the damage one ignorant negro can do?”
One of the most polarizing characters in cinema imoI liked Waters.
I don't believe he was a c00n either. Not in the least.
I think Waters was highly intelligent but damaged irreparably as so many of us are. Adolph Caesar was masterful in that role.I liked Waters.

Facts, that's a must cop ticket

Movie was deep. The desire for respect from other people can make you hate your own.
The story he told was about hating a fellow Black person cause they made them look bad in front of the French people. Why be so concerned what French people think to the point you murder someone? It's hatred of a Black person in the name of impressing French people. He was a man hardened by life, and only wanted the best of the best by his side to fight....whatever the fight was gonna be. He thought the only way to achieve greatness was to make sure the greatest of the others were just as hardened as he, so that they'd be ready for anything life through their way.
Unfortunately, in trying to toughen them up, he wasn't likeable at all. They only saw him as a bitter old shell of a man.
While CJ may have been a good person, he was a bit dimwitted. There wasn't much of a place for him there, during that time. I don't think Sarge hated his own, it was moreso that he felt CJ wasn't going to really be cut out for the fight they had. He saw him as a liability, like having to lug around a preteen in the midst of war. Anywhere else outside of their current environment, and I think he'd like CJ.
He cut the mans throat….to escape any association with ignorant negros. It’s an interest allusion to Dubois and Booker T dynamic. The story he told was about hating a fellow Black person cause they made them look bad in front of the French people. Fighting in a war for America shouldn't even be a priority for a Black person but he took it with the utmost seriousness. Why? Again to impress other people not Black people.

Cut the throat of a man who dressed up with a fake tail, acting like he was a primate to mock Black people and to entertain those white soldiers. He cut the mans throat….to escape any association with ignorant negros. It’s an interest allusion to Dubois and Booker T dynamic.
Would you have cut his throat?Cut the throat of a man who dressed up with a fake tail, acting like he was a primate to mock Black people and to entertain those white soldiers.

Went beyond him trying to toughen them up, though. He was a man hardened by life, and only wanted the best of the best by his side to fight....whatever the fight was gonna be.
