NYC dept store Century 21 just declared bankruptcy :sadbron:

I got so much drip from there through the years. I used to drive from VA just to go there. It’s across the street from ground zero, survived 9/11, but couldn’t make it though COVID

Many a trip to the mall got derailed by a stop to Sam Goody, or B. Dalton. Had to cop the latest Goosebumps. :wow:

I preferred Hollywood to Blockbuster back in the day. I swear they used to have at least one copy available of almost everything.

But I shed real tears when this joint shut down.

They legit had EVERYTHING. Games, movies, books, music, and none of the sections were small. My pops and I would legit go in, and not come out for hours, it seemed like.

Damn, how did i forget this - Modells & Kmart (soon)

And Blockbuster :camby: The local mom & pop video stores had better deals + that Kung Fu section that took up the whole wall :ohlawd: , the WWF coliseum collection & the porn section behind the curtain:sas1:
Kmart was the shyt. Their food was on point too. Soon as you'd walk in you'd smell those burgers and fries like :banderas:

Radio Shack was great. The staff was always knowledgeable and nine times out of ten they had what you needed. Circuit City was a good competitor or alternative to Best Buy.

I worked at Circuit City near the end. Great alternative to Best Buy, like you said. Although to be fair, my nostalgia is also carrying memories of retail fukkery.

RadioShack used to come through in the clutch every single time almost solely off of having every battery, cable, and connector in existence every single damn time. But they were also the first place I could remember that would ask you for your phone number for buying some basic ass shyt like a pack of AAs. :martin:

I vaguely remember them doing that. Was so long ago. The main thing I remember was they had this one type/brand of popular headphones that knocked, but had a reputation for shorting out after a few months. Those headphones cost like $40 which was a lot for headphones back then. It wasn't a name like Sony either. It was some offbrand but they knocked on a walkman. You could only get them at Radio Shack. I remember listening to the Alkaholiks and then eventually the right side of the headphones stopped working.
