i would have said goodfellas but i have seen that movie about 200 times. i would more likely put on godfather 1 or 2 now. just cause its a harder watch so i havent milked the experience to death yet. godfather 1 and 2 are the epitome of american cinema. hard to beat. goodfellas is like reasonable doubt to godfathers ilmatic. we all know how dope reasonable doubt is. it just aint illmatic.
Ah that shyt..yeah I agree, that's a cop out. But I guess it's kinda like my personal feelings on some movies: I like Tango & Cash more than Vertigo (as in if they're both on, I'm watching Tango & Cash) but I know what the better film is
This argument has always really interested me. I enjoy Fletch 2 a lot more than I enjoy Casablanca, but I "understand" that Casablanca is the better movie. But why is that? Shouldn't pleasure factor into our critical judgment? I mean it's an old argument in literary criticism. How do we evaluate art? What makes Hamlet better than Tamburlaine?
I think it's because I understand that from a critical standpoint, as far as doing everything a movie is supposed to be as far as proper direction (which Tango and Cash doesn't have), character development, acting, writing, etc. that I can recognize some movies I love are lacking or in some cases just don't have. And you know that because you've learned them either through observation or in classes. There are a lot of film students on here or at least people who took film studies classes in college, so there will be a lot of discussing film from a critical and analytical standpoint. I was watching 2Fast last night and while I love it, I have more film knowledge now than I did in 2003 so there are things now that pop out at me that didn't before
