Now ask what does Vito's entrance into organized crime tell me about Michael's continued ascension into organized crime? We see Vito doing it for family, but we already know Michael does it for himself. If anything, the Deniro as Vito footage would fit better interspersed into part 1. Then we can see the contrast in the two men. Michael's ruthlessness vs. Vito's pragmatism; Michael's ego vs. Vito's legitimate desire to provide. By 2 we already know everything we need to about Michael. Seeing how his father got started doesn't add anything to his story and seeing him continue to do Michael-like things doesn't add anything to his father's story.

I don't believe Godfather 1 tells everything we need to know about Michael. I believe part 2 finishes his story because much like Vito, he's doing what he believes is best for his family and it is a perfect contrast because to me, it does add a lot to the story. Especially when it comes to the way Godfather 2 ends. There's no way Vito, when he first started or in his twilight, would ever commit some of the acts Michael committed. Godfather 2 is more about Michael taking the reigns as opposed to Godfather 1, which is more about Michael's reluctant rise to power. The family structure is gone in part 2, mostly due to the moves Michael made. We know dude is ruthless but we didn't think he'd be ruthless enough to order the death of his own brother.

godfathers were worldwide.. from america to italy, these dudes had major connects, political power, 5 families hashing shyt out, going to war

goodfellas was just some local faction of nikkas.. really they wasn't even that major on the scale.. shyt they wasn't even the major family in nyc, let alone making international moves.. it was more recent.. times changed for the mob and they were moving towards drugs..


plus the actual movies were different times as well.. so you really can't compare how they look and were shot with technology advances and shyt

Well that's definitely a preference thing then because The Godfather is far from boring in my eyes. It's got violence, character work, politics, treachery, duplicity, tension, everything.

Godfather is played on HBO and Cinemax A LOT and Spike TV too. I see Goodfellas a lot on AMC and Spike also. I feel like it's pretty even but that's me
