I've never been in the mob so I can't speak on it but I'd argue that they both depict that lifestyle well I guess? Godfather has more glamor but that's due to the time its set in and the style of the filmmaker but when people die, the shyt is not glamorous. People get stabbed, shot in the eye, yoked up, etc. The Godfather is set in a post world war 2 society, whereas goodfellas is set in the 60s/70s so it's going to be a little dirtier because the world was dirtier at that time. We gotta look at the societal context too

As much as I love Goodfellas I cant agree with this. Godfather I and II are just that amazing. Goodfellas is right behind it though and a great updated mafia movie from the 60s to the 80s. The soundtrack alone is amazing as hell. shyt now I dont know...I'm gonna have to think about this...

This is why I'm leaning Goodfellas. It showed the rise and the fall and when it fell boy did it crumble big time and hard. I still remember when Tommy got killed that shyt hurt. I wanted to cry with Deniro in the phone booth. I understood why but that one hurt. I also like how the rise of narcotics was said to be the ultimate fall of the mafia just like how Don Corlene predicted in The Godfather. Thats whats so amazing about both films and their symbiotic relationship with one another. Both amazing films but I think Godfather 2 wins it out.
