Decline in rap quality is correlated to literacy. These rappers now don't read books, don't write, illiterate. No longer intense path b/w poetry to rap

It honestly depends on the individual and where they are in life. As I grew older I appreciated lyrics more than when I was young.
Younger me favorite artists would probably be Playboi Carti, Future, and Travis Scott right now.
It has nothing to do with where someone is in life. It’s all about preference.

Hearing multis is not entertaining to me. Never been a fan of shyt like Lupe or Nas

So why even put lyrics to a song then everything should be instrumentals
Because it’s not what you say it’s how you say it.

Some of the most iconic lines in rap are the simplest shyt said in a cool way

2chainz opening to Birthday song is the simplest shyt ever recorded but everyone quotes it

I am the astronomical mad scientifical..
Criminal individual lyrical spiritual miracle
That shyt actually makes sense. :heh:

It's hyperbolic, but it's not nonsense.

I'm astronomical (grand-scale), mad scientifical (I drop science lyrically)
Criminal individual (I'm a thug) lyrical (lyricist) spiritual miracle (child of God)

The state of inner city education in that time was atrocious.

Many if not most rappers were high or middle school drop outs then.

Well, rap is so huge of a genre that you have more than enough options of intelligent music to listen to. :yeshrug: the music you like is a reflection of you. If you like stupid, shallow, crash dummy shyt, then chances are you are that. I dont listen to carti playboy, lil baby, da baby, and etc. My favorite all time rapper/lyricist is the gza. :yeshrug: you can pick and choose.

Schools back in the 80s and 90s, although underfunded, people read magazines, hood books, and so on. There wasn't any smartphones or social media to keep people distracted from real life.
