Folks really saying he wasn’t called the best player in the world in here
During the “Kobe vs LeBron era” the media was claiming LeBron didn’t have the clutch gene or the killer instinct to ever win a title. LeBron was the guy who cared about pretty stats while Kobe was the guy who didn’t care about anything other than winning. That’s how they got you clowns to watch first take and all of that bullshyt. But apparently that still wasn’t enough for you Stans. The media loved him in 1998. Then they started tearing him down. Especially in the beef with Shaq which started in 2000. The entire media was on some Kobe is selfish we fukk with Shaq tip. The Colorado incident only made things worse. And you're wrong about saying Kobe was loved after 2008. That was during the Kobe vs LeBron era. And the media didn't like the fact Kobe was threatening their new cash cow so they went out of their way to hate Kobe.
The only time since 2000 I saw the media ease back on their hate of Kobe was after he died.

Except Lebron did produce in the playoffs. By 2009, Lebron already had his legendary performance against the Pistons in the ECF, he already had multiple playoff series victories, he already had a finals appearance, he was fresh off a seven game series against the newly formed big three in Boston with Delonte West as his running mate. I mean in 2009 he averaged 40, 9, and 9 in a series in the ECF. Giannis was a 2-time MVP but never had signature moments in the playoffs-- he had a disappointing first round series against Boston in 2018, was shut down by Toronto's wall in the ECF n 2019, and was embarrassed in the bubble in 2020. He solidified his claim as the best player in the world with that 2021 finals run but he didn't prove anything in a playoff setting before that while Lebron proved himself before he won a championship.Yup. I mentioned it in another thread a couple years back: the irony that the same arguments Bron stans were using against Giannis… was the same logic they were fighting against from Kobe stans a literal decade ago on sohh
A stat padding regular season monster (same back to back mvp winners on 60 win teams) who didn’t have the ‘tangibles, grit, nor “skill” to get it done in a playoff atmosphere.
Same shyt different decade lol. It’s as if all stans are the same in the end
'05-'06 is when it really started. nikkas are really still trying to get their Dr. Strange on and warp time & space when it comes to this topic. Like Mark Jackson didn't proclaim live on ABC television that Kobe could go down as the GOAT.
Like he wasn't unanimously heralded as the best player on the floor & the top dog in the summer of '07 during the Team USA scrimmage.
Like Amare really wasn't about to slap up his own teammate over the topic in 2006.
Bean was considered the best player in the world '05 - '09 with Lebron entering the conversation in '09 once he began peaking. The idea that he was only considered the guy in the Olynpics is asinine. Like, son, do you think he rolled out of bed and was magically bestowed that title by the Redeem Team & (begrudgingly) the media? No, fool. The ball went to him in the Gold medal game during the last six minutes because the world & his peers had conceded that title to him years ago. The championships with Pau and three consecutive Finals only cemented his standing.
Imagine living in the past every day
