It seems like I'm one of the only ones that enjoys this movie for what it is: vigilante exploitation. I know its not the best constructed plot and everything, but for what it and the 4 sequels do, it does it well...yeah I have a problem with the race and class issues throughout the film, but I have an even bigger problem with our society's lack of concern for the lawlessness that has permeated throughout our history, so I welcome this movie; its an "I don't give a fukk" revenge flick, but it is also one of the earliest flicks to have an underlying message about the justice system (the movie Law Abiding Citizen tried this too), and how it doesn't work.

it's a trash movie with trash ideology. that being said, it works as a dumb popcorn flick. the first one is somewhat more realistic but the third one was the most fun.

Death Wish was cool, if you really want to hear quotable Bronson whaling on the ghetto watch "Stone Killer". Between Dirty Harry and Taxi Driver I'm pretty much sorted for "above the law" stories. If you do like DW check out "Vigilante", 80s movie with Robert Forster (the bondsman from Jackie Brown) and Fred Williamson (nuff said), there's a shot where a boricuan hood blows a baby out of a window with a sawn off - I'd never seen that in a film before...

Grafx: Basic.

Trax: DOPE! 1) Was appropriately creepy and moody when necessary. 2) HERBIE HANCOCK! Fukc it. Automatic points.

Breax: Basic as fukc. Not quiiiiiiiite wack but.. Sh"t was just wooden. I never felt as if I was observing a live person living life. Just a walking cliche. I was engaged so I can't really hate.. so-wack-its-dope?

Lyrix: Dope. Ham handed as it might be, this was provoking and captivating. Asked big questions. I certainly see the racist overtones, but I would like for the stick up kids around MY was to feel it. Now. 2014. They played it off well enough with a Rainbow Coalition of thugs so I recieved the signal that they was going at any mugger. The creep factor is mile high when juxtaposed against today's gun nuts, but taken at face value I think it's a clear and thought provoking statement.

where they cross-over and clap boards
My mom put me on Charles Bronson movies when I was younger...brought back so many memories of us watching movies together :to:

Did anyone notice Denzel Washington as one of the muggers with the fro that got shot? I had to rewind it back just to make sure.

Not that big of a deal. Its damn near impossible to get any part in Hollywood, so atleast he got his start here...if not for this part, he may not have gotten other parts down the road and we would never have his great roles, especially Malcolm X.
I was just saying, nothing has really changed for black roles. Or atleast starting out anyway

You're right. Only a handful make it past that, but for the most, that's all racist ass Hollywood wants us to be in media

finally saw this movie for the first time since i was a kid. this movie is considered a classic in my family so nostalgia was running through my veins watching this at my age now. i liked how the movie was brutal in depicting the rape scene and the violence but it did feel a tab bit exploitative. bronson's aura is just untouchable. pretty much what everyone said in this thread is how i feel about this movie. the theme of this movie is basura and the movie definitely aged quite a bit. overall it was entertaining especially in the first half but the second half i found myself almost nodding off and sticking through it just for coli movie club purposes. sad how we never found out what happened to his daughter. his motivations for going vigilante wasn't explained as well as it should have been. I will give this movie a solid 6/10
