I said this a few weeks ago 46-52 wins is where they should be unless a significant injury happens. The depth and work ethic should see them be tough enough to get wins on better opponents.

The Knicks are built to win in the regular season and they are probably looking to improve the roster. The issue with this team is the playoffs where Talent is significantly more important than depth and work ethic.

I was looking through some of the Eastern Conference depth charts after all of the movement. I had already been confident in our bench, but some of these teams are really depleted or relying on old and injury prone pieces for key bench roles. This team might overachieve some...it's just a crappy year to overachieve. The top of the East is murderer's row and the draft is gonna be loaded.

I do like Cam Whitmore and Jarace Walker. The issue with the draft is after watching the FO punt on a pick #11. I just can’t get attached to potential picks anymore.

Also, I expect the Knicks to move Fournier for a better wing if possible. From a cap standpoint it makes sense to grab another piece they can add to this current team because FA will be limited because they are over the cap and their regular season strategy means they will be drafting in the 20’s. Fournier age makes signing him long term a risk top.

I keep dropping names of trade target but of all the wings I mentioned keep an eye on Kyle Kuzma. Between him being CAA, not a knuckle head in his personal life, and also a former team mate of Randle. If he hits the market I think the Knicks pull a trade.

I see a middle of the road team. If we do better then that means we have at least 3 different players overachieving.

In the grand scheme of things they just need to get the young guys playoff experience. The young guys are early enough in their careers playoff experience that isn’t one sided like Atlanta is useful. Also Reddish, IQ, and Obi all can be extended this summer. It would be good to let teams see them in that setting before they get moved.

Basically the Knicks need to walk before they run. Two seasons ago may have been a fluke, but if they can pull it off this year there isn’t any reason to think they can’t do it again in the future.

I still hold that Knicks fans have been overrating that 11th pick. This draft class was trash with some projects worth taking fliers on but not at 11...maybe around 20. But the punt was savvy in my eyes since this class sucked, in indirectly helped us land Brunson (plus two picks with potential to convey in the double-draft), and there just weren't prospects that had me hype. Their track record prior to this punt is Obi, Quickley, Grimes, McBride, Rokas, and Sims which makes me pretty confident they can find value when it's actually worth chasing after.

My Fournier theory for the time being is that they're still banking on dumping a high salary vet. I think Fournier is still their most likely choice. That's my guess for why training camp is starting with an open slot. Fournier for 2 expirings, or 1 expiring and 1 cheaper contract is easier to pull.

I wouldn't buy a Kuzma rumor until Randle's out the door and/or they actually get the results they're counting on from this roster. If Grimes lives up to their hype, then the starting wing spots are locked up with home grown talent. I do expect consolidation but not a significant upgrade unless they're in the thick of things when current signed players become available (with an eye on the center logjam they've seemingly created on purpose).

I see Boston falling off some between the Ime stuff, Gallo’s torn ACL, Brogdon’s inevitable injury, Jaylen Brown frustration at trade rumors and possible growing friction with Tatum. It doesn’t seem like the chemistry will be right and expectations will be high this is a team that didn’t get it together until the new year to make their Finals run.

East is good a lot will be contingent on our health and defense this season. But it’s a wild card I could even see teams like Orlando and Detroit being as good or better than us.
