This issue is that's still way too many assets for a guy who has been proven to not be that guy, just save it for when it's for someone who is.
There’s not gonna be anyone else.

-LeBron is nearing 40.
-Steph is approaching his mid-30’s and will be a Warrior lifer.
-Giannis isn’t going anywhere.
-Durant is approaching his mid-30’s and is injury prone and isn’t coming here.
-Kawhi is home in LA and has a degenerative condition.

These are some of the transcendent players of the league who have won the last championships.

In the next generation who is going to become available who is that guy for you? It can be KAT if the Wolves fail in the next 2-3 years after giving that haul up.

To me Donovan has proven to be that guy. He has proven to be a number one option level scorer and the most prolific playoff scorer of his generation of players.

I get where you're coming from on the amount of assets, but i think the key in this deal is that it leaves New York with a lot of assets still in hand for an additional move. Because of the picks they've acquired, they'll likely still be able to offer picks from any year in the future and package multiple picks. The deal as proposed also leaves McBride and Rokas with the Knicks, who I think can both become more valuable by this time next season. Then Mitch and Sims both signed sweetheart contracts that could be really valuable after December 15th.

The Knicks would essentially be in a position to use picks they still have for replenishing the youth and development phase. Or they could package those picks for a final piece or two. They'll also still be crazy young because that projected starting line-up has 4 players at or under 25 years old (plus Obi and Deuce off the bench). So there would a years-long window to build around this core.

And one last really nice piece of this puzzle is the new tv deal. The salary cap is going to make a leap in a couple of years. After RJ is extended, New York's entire team will be under contract through that period (Brunson might be able to opt-out as it hits though). So New York may have a competitive core, players entering their prime, AND enough cap space to swing hard in that free agent class.

I don't love giving up so much for any player other than a Giannis or a Bron. But this move sets New York up with a genuine playoff core and years of flexibility to try and tweak or improve it.

That's if that deal goes as reported.

Problem with that is that "someone" may never come and those assets have time limits. Whether it be extensions to the younger players or eventually having to use those draft picks. We saw what happened with Boston and all those draft picks they accumulated. They never traded them and drafted marginal
Some of those Boston players didn't work out, BUT iirc their 4 guys in Jaylen, Jayson, Smart and Williams were all from pick deals they had. You win some you lose some but danny is doing the exact thing he did in Boston by fleecing teams and working on drafting well. Damn near every team in the playoffs had a core of guys that they drafted and worked on unless it was for a megastar.

This is same old bullshyt that's gonna bite us in the ass, Donovan ISN'T going ti take us to the ring wo there is no point in trading away every thing for him.

This is knicks chasing a big name for nominal success all over again

What has Donovan proven that makes him that guy? He has never been past the 2md round and he is not a great defender. We are doing this the right way by working on the youth and not gutting everything for a big name. This shyt is WILD and will age terribly. Is Dolan doing making this trade? This is an 2012 Dolan move right here.

Donovan isn't making this team go deep in the playoffs so there is literally no point in selling the farm for him.

Love how Knicks fans continuously shyt on Randle for years talking about how much he sucks and how he's ruining the team and then want to act like he's an asset in trades :mjlol:
Can't have it both ways
Is he not an all star? And the NBA's Most Improved Player. Check his resume. :lupe:

Losing in the 2nd round is what you want? This roster isn't better than the Jazz roster that lost then lmao. This will 100% be a wash
Bro answer the question what makes someone that guy?

The Jazz weren’t that good. The Knicks have a shot of compiling a better roster over the years.

I'm hearing that Jack Settleman is the illegitimate grandson of the late Burt Steele.

26 years ago, the Steele family removed their daughter out of the family and out of the will because she was fooling around with @KnickstapeCity .

What I'm saying is, a bullshyt family with a bullshyt daughter fukking a bullshyt coli nikka birthed a bullshyt grandson with a twitter handle.

I don't believe any of the bullshyt. :hubie:

I'd rather keep Obi. Although, I want them both.
I'd rather the knicks trade more picks, Grimes and Mcbride than Obi/IQ.
:mjlol: fukking hilarious

:comeon:This is funny too but not Ha Ha funny.

Someone who I conder that guy is someone who has been proven, not necessarily a world champion, but someone who can excel consistently. Donovan's package is not worth his play, he has never seen past the 2nd round, isn't a great defender and imo has near reached his ceiling. A hell of a player but not the 1st option on a championship team which is why you trade for him.

And what makes this team better than any of those jazz teams? Especially with the east getting better, this team is at BEST equal to them.

" The Knicks have a shot of compiling a better roster over the years"

Yes that's what we've been doing and we are about to throw it all away to make a "splash" this team just came off of a shyt year after being bounced in the playoffs handedly. Randle has a bad attitude and probably gonna throw a stink if it goes bad and the ball doesn't touch his hands. Donovan has reached his ceiling

So stop thinking about it as an all in move. The guys are right, as long as the team remains flexible after a Mitchell a trade, we become that much more of a destination with the ability and contracts to go get another player.
