The most telling sign when acquiring a player from another team is how the fan base reacts to losing that player and Mavs fans do not seem happy about the prospect of losing Brunson.
Of course not. He’s a good player but he doesn’t fit our roster he fits their roster.

He plays in a 5-out with Luka where he is essentially the Kyrie to his LeBron.

There’s a lot of dumb ass Knicks fans that don’t know how good Brunson is.

I was reading about how few PnR he was allowed to run in Dallas because of Luka. I wonder if that can still open his game up a bit despite the lack of spacing.

Lot's of good news in here, some. notes:

Other teams with degrees of interest in Brunson also believe New York to currently be the favorite to sign Brunson.
Just wanted to throw it out there that other teams do have some interest. But most teams don't have cap space and the going assumption around the league was that he'd be re-signing even as of the draft. So most teams weren't going to make moves for a player they didn't think that they could get.

The Knicks can get to roughly $25 million if they trade Alec Burks or Nerlens Noel and don’t take back any salary.

Several teams, including the Boston Celtics, have a degree of interest in trading for Burks, per sources.

Several teams, including the Nets and Toronto Raptors, have levels of interest in trading for Noel, per SNY sources.

The Los Angeles Clippers also have some interest in Noel, a source said, confirming a RealGM report.

The Nets’ interest in Noel would presumably be dependent on what happens with Nic Claxton. Teams monitoring Claxton’s market expect that he will remain in Brooklyn.

If the Knicks trade Noel and Burks into cap space or trade exceptions, it would open up roughly $16 million in cap space.

Multiple teams are showing some interest in Noel and Burks. I doubt the Nets miss out on Claxton though. Either way, there are paths to generating extra cap space.

This is noteworthy because teams monitoring New York’s approach in the offseason expect that they will be active in trades/free agency even if they sign Brunson. Per people in touch with members of the organization, the Knicks view Brunson, 26, as a good fit for the timeline of the club’s other younger players and someone who could help propel the team forward.

If he signs in New York, Brunson will be getting significant money. But members of the team, per people in touch with them, don’t view Brunson as a potential franchise-altering savior. Those members of the organization have said that they see Brunson as an important potential addition to their process, but they aren’t of the belief that he would singularly turn the franchise around.
They're not looking at Brunson as the last move, which is good. Hopefully it means more vets out to make minutes for the young guys to develop together.

As far as adding another player, New York would have the draft capital to put together a package for San Antonio’s Spurs' Dejounte Murray. According to Bleacher Report, the Atlanta Hawks and Spurs have had talks surrounding Murray. I don’t know if the Knicks have touched base with San Antonio, but rival executives see Murray and Brunson as a strong fit, for what it’s worth.

Also, the Knicks are considering converting Jericho Sims’ two-way contract to a standard deal, per SNY sources. In this scenario, the club is considering signing second-round pick Trevor Keels to a two-way contract, sources said. Both of those transactions are seen as likely as of Tuesday afternoon.
Sounds like Noel is definitely getting dealt. That would make the room for the Sims' contract conversion and Keels' two-way deal. Throwing in the note about Murray even though it's just a confirmation that there's no news so far.

That spacing is :francis:

Prob 40 just because of defense
Barrett has to improve as a shooter and we'd need a genuine stretch 4. Barrett, Brunson and Murray can all facilitate, meaning we'd be taking the ball out of Randle's hand and he wouldn't get a chance to be effective as he can be. We'd have to either trade Randle and either get a stretch 4 back, or use it as a salary dump and sign one next year.

I wish that more star players wanted to play for the Knicks. Unfortunately, Dolan being the owner and the history of incompetent front offices have ruined the reputation of the franchise.

Leading the Knicks to a championship would make you an instant NBA & NYC legend FOREVER. No one wants to deal with that challenge & pressure though.

Carmelo was up for the challenge but yeah, it didn't materialize (for various reasons).

No one wants to form a Knicks Big 3 :mjcry:
