No I remember all of that... But I also understood that Fournier wasn't playing well compared to any other time in his career. Yeah, I wanted Grimes to play over Fournier but I knew it wasn't realistic because Fournier was the better player. And as the season went on he's proven that to be true offensively.

Again, were we REALLY expecting any coach to put 25th pick Quentin Grimes over any of the guys who were ahead of him in the rotation in a season with playoff expectations?

At the time we probably did want Grimes over Fournier because of how bad he was playing & for so long. It was unrealistic but that was the feeling; what did we have to lose. Outside of the Celts game, Fournier was horrendous to start the season. But we also wanted Grimes to get SOME mins because he improved 2 areas we were ridiculously bad in; especially early in the season: 3pt shooting & perimeter defense. Most of us knew Grimes could play & contribute; but it took Thibs covid to realize he could do this which is the point @ikbm & others were making which I 100% agree with

"Can contribute" and "will contribute" are two different things though. I'm not mad at Thibs for going with something that he has evidence works in the NBA than someone you're hoping might. I would love to see Grimes start...I've said as much on my podcast. I also wanted to see Frank Ntilikina get four years of actual development as a potential starting PG, but I was always told that it's obviously something the coaches are seeing that shows he's not good enough. Before Grimes exploded offensively in his first NBA start, he had a couple of bad shooting games. But we were hearing how Thibs loved Grimes even then. I don't get the determination ppl have to villainize the coach for having a bad season. He is what he is....and he will win or lose doing it his way....which is a far cry from "we'll never win with him."

I can’t hate on Thibs for Grimes, but Grimes is player that fits in the mold of what Thibs likes.

The issue with Thibs is the roster has a bunch of guys who don’t fit what he likes in players. So he neglects them to get the guys who fit what he needs. That isn’t a bad thing on a playoff team, this team is developing. I keep comparing him to D’antoni for a reason. D’antoni wasn’t a bad coach, just a limited one. Give him the pieces he needs he’ll get you into the playoffs. Same with Thibs.

The Knicks need a balanced, development coach who comes with a definite system both on defense and offense. They got some interesting pieces and have to know what they are doing in order to make decisions on them.

If Grimes was showing in the summer league, preseason, & practice he could ball, then it doesn't take a rocket scientist to believe he WILL contribute bro. You're making this harder than what the situation really calls for. Grimes was known for these things in college & it translated into the NBA. I believe any other coach would've given Grimes an opportunity sooner than Thibs because of all that.

We villanize Thibs because he's keeps doing the same thing over & over again thinking he'll have different results. Only recently, (where I think the FO stepped in & told him to play the young guys & make RJ more of a focal point) Thibs started doing things a little different. But Thibs is gonna Thibs when it comes to sub patterns, late game decisions, making adjustments & we're still seeing the same results in the 3rd & 4th quarter of games
