Death Row was the leader of all things Hip-Hop from about 92-96. No one was fukking with them. But they had a drop off that has not been rivaled. Look at their albums released after The 7 day theory. Then Suge got al them rappers like Top Dogg and The Realest trying to recreate something that was organic. Even had nikkas thinking Crooked I would bring tha Row back. But by then Suge had fukked over to many people and burned to many bridges. Makes me wonder how Baby been in the game for 20 plus years and still aint fall off after jerking nikkas. All that shyt Suge did done came back on him over the years ten fold.

They didnt "fall off" they all died, went to jail, or left the label.

Falling off would be to make mediocre music while still on the label. :stopitslime:

I thought MWTC was much better than Above the Rim. Other than the two Jewell tracks, shyt was fire

:wtf::wtf:
"harvest for the world" is one of the better tracks on MWTC.

i think now i know why people on here favor MWTC over above the rim. if you break it down to just rap songs, then MWTC is a little stronger. but overall, above the rim is clearly the better piece of work.

people in here trying to say that "murder was the case" is better than "above the rim", need to do some explaining.

pronto.

:why: youre insane.

the reason dogg food didnt fully get its props initially was because it was clearly a step down from the previous 4 releases. it is a classic tho, but barely. sorta like albums such as jay's blueprint.

:what:

nobody cares about eminem in that aspect. otherwise, aftermath would be considered legendary. but they did have alot of artists on deck that didnt reach their potential: sam sneed, lady or rage, dj quik didnt drop an album over there, death row east, and that jodeci thread got me to thinking about their r&b division. they signed jodeci when they were coming off their best album, and devante was the best producer in music & they signed him to a production deal and all that went to chit because suge wanted to bully niccas. and man, yall saw that track that devante laid down for danny boy. then you still had jewell, michell'le, nate dogg and somebody on sohh said that they signed christopher williams. and you know that if devante stayed there and was happy, then he prolly wouldve put the whole swing-mob crew on over there. timbaland & missy on the boards, GINUWINE, playa, etc.

and dont get it twisted, i love dogg food. im just saying that its not seeing those soundtracks. i also think that it suffered a lil bit from the bar being raised too high at death row.

Jodeci was never signed to death row.

So that track is better than the following:

Murder Was The Case (Remix)
Natural Born Killaz
What Would U Do?
21 Jump Street
Who Got Some Gangsta shyt?
Dollaz + Sense
U Better Recognize
Come When I Call
One More Day

:stopitslime:

I prefer MWTC personally. Holds up better than ATR in the long-term, much more consistency, and only a couple skippable tracks.

To each their own.

^^thats what homeboy was saying on here a couple weeks ago. where homeslice at?

i know for sure that devante was signed to a production deal

nah. put that in reverse jim.

Suge signed Management deals with Jodeci, DJ Quik, and Mary J. Blige at that time. He renegotiated their contracts with MCA and Profile. Devante was rumored to sign a production deal in 2001 when Suge got out, but that wound up not coming to fruition.

better than the joints in the bolded, definitely. and i'd take it over the over-produced version of "murder was the case" as well.

as for the MWTC/ATR comparison, if you just like rap, then i can see why you like MWTC better, but when you look at the big picture, "above the rim" takes the cake. theres a reason why MWTC doesnt get the same props.

:duck:

* "Come When I Call", "One More Day", and "Horny" were all better R&B tracks than "Harvest for the World". Just remembered "Come up to my room" as well (SMH at me not putting it in my original post). No chance in hell a Jewell track was seeing an in their prime Jodeci track.

* The version of "Murder Was The Case" that was on the soundtrack is a hip-hop classic. Not many people will honestly tell you the OG was better than the MWTC version.

as for the MWTC/ATR comparison, if you just like rap, then i can see why you like MWTC better, but when you look at the big picture, "above the rim" takes the cake. theres a reason why MWTC doesnt get the same props.

IMO over time Murder Was The Case aged better than ATR. Dre's fingerprints were all over MWTC and Daz was in his prime with production. Don't get me wrong, I like the ATR soundtrack, but I find myself skipping half the cd when I listen to it. Other than three tracks ("Harvest For The World", "Woman to Woman", and "Eastside-Westside"), I can listen to MWTC straight through and enjoy it.

whats with the jewell hate? "harvest for the world" was easily the best r&b cut on MWTC. she merked that remake. powerful music.

that jodeci song was meh just like most of jodeci's uptempos. if im short on time, i flat out skip that track.

the soundtrack version of that snoop joint is over-produced. many agree. i like it, but the doggystyle version is fresher.
