Just saw it today.
I think overall, it's refreshing and it raises a lot of issues and questions that haven't been done in mainstream cinema yet. The acting was tight, especially Tyler Williams,
Teyonah Parris, and Brandon Bell. The script was clever in many places too. I do think the writer tried to cram too many issues into too many characters. I suppose that's the point though. We aren't a monolith, black folks are very diverse and have many different identities and issues to deal with. I'm just not sure that translated smoothly on screen. But overall, it was funny, thought-provoking, and the story line was very interesting and different. I know folks won't really be comfortable with everything that's portrayed, but I think that was intentional as well. I hope people give it a shot, it's worth it.
I'd give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.
