Just saw it in Union Square with the hipster crowd. I liked it. Its not like some posters thought. Where they leave off with a "colorblind, we're all human" feel.

I actually liked the message it left concerning white folks.

Just saw it today.

I think overall, it's refreshing and it raises a lot of issues and questions that haven't been done in mainstream cinema yet. The acting was tight, especially Tyler Williams, Teyonah Parris, and Brandon Bell. The script was clever in many places too. I do think the writer tried to cram too many issues into too many characters. I suppose that's the point though. We aren't a monolith, black folks are very diverse and have many different identities and issues to deal with. I'm just not sure that translated smoothly on screen. But overall, it was funny, thought-provoking, and the story line was very interesting and different. I know folks won't really be comfortable with everything that's portrayed, but I think that was intentional as well. I hope people give it a shot, it's worth it.

I'd give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.:ld:

The fact that this got a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes says this movie is likely the kinda comfortable movie White people can see and find nothing offensive or upsetting about it. The title may say Dear White People but we all know a movie with that title and a 97% on RT ain't calling out anybody really.

So they showed the trailer before the James Brown biopic I went and watched. I stay in half hipster/half yuppie ass Fairfax, Va and maaaaaaan the white folks in the theater were lookin extra tight during the entire preview. I was scoping and had that sly Billy D. grin in full of effect during it all. I'm going to see this just to see white folks look uncomfortable brehs. We might have a winner here

will be like the opposite of sitting through django. mad over-laughter during that flick. made me not even really like the movie like that
