If the kid was just walking around....yeah that's foul.

But....lil breh was jacking cars AND had done it before. Obviously we ALL know a white homeowner would never shoot a 13-year old white kid doing the same thing BUT.....committing crime makes it hard to have much sympathy.

Black kids don't get second chances so as parents you gotta remind them of that.

I had a voice and enough neck/jaw hair to be able to buy cigarettes for HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS when I was in 7th grade. Them store clerks thought I was 20. They've done studies where people perceive Black kids as being older than they actually are. Shooter probably was convinced the kid was older.

Taking accountability from the person who raised them once again. When a child raised by a good single mother does well, it’s because of the mom. When a child raised by a demonic hoodrat becomes a statistic its because of the dad.

People in DC are fed up. The below image is from a post on this story on the most popular DC centric Instagram page. Since last year people in the comments on this page kept saying this would eventually happen when stories about crime would be posted. People are sick and tired of slow response times from police or police flat out not coming for smaller crimes like a car break in when you call it in. Adults failed him, but if you wanna play in the streets..... You might die in the streets. Age don't matter.

Unfortunate situation all around. But as one of the members here who was alive during the high crime early 90s, the turn into the viewpoints expressed here was inevitable.
It happened during the crack era, with the violence that came along with that, and we predicted that similar sentiments would be the response when crime spiked again.

Wow according to the flyer, 2 years ago he went missing on a Thursday and whoever was his guardian didn't report him missing to the police until the next Monday. There is the answer some of you were asking as to why a 13 y/o was out in the streets at 4 in the morning. His guardian failed him in life. He had the bad luck to be born into a horrible family. He never stood a chance

The moment we resign ourselves to the notion a kid deserves to be gunned down over a car break-in is the moment we lose. And I’ve been a victim of it myself. It’s infuriating and I felt violated. A lot of y'all are confusing carjackings with car break ins.

A carjacking is the act of stealing someone's vehicle from a party, with use of force or intimidation.

A car break in is the act of entering a vacant vehicle.

You smoke a carjacker, no one's going to say "please stop the violence"

You shoot someone breaking into random cars....you're going to jail and you deserve to.

Problem is he probably tried to confront the thief or trespasser whatever you want to call him at that point, then the situation escalated.

There's no where in America where it's legal for you as a gun own to start a situation then shoot someone. And it's very hard to argue cases where people intervene on their own accord and end up shooting someone. Obviously if there's threat of violence, harm, death, rape, kidnapping, you as a ccw holder can intervene. But for property damage or theft....you can't do it.

A store owner can't follow a person out of a store that stole Doritos, end up tossing with him then shoot him.

You can't watch someone steal a package off someones porch then shoot them.

You can't chase down someone riding around hitting mailboxes with a baseball bat then shoot them.
