Just clarifying for those who can't tell by the Twitter picture. This former DC council woman is black. She represented Ward 7 which is a very black area of DC.
You shouldn't hate to bring this up because it's more than worth mentioning and should always be at the forefront of Black people's minds. Far too many of us only contemplate our Blackness and the implications when it's already too late. We literally have a thread right now about the rapper TayK complaining that his white codefendant basically got a slap on the wrist for something he caught 50 years for.

What is a 13 year old doing outside at 3am. His parents failed him smh, my parents used to tell me. To be in the house once the street lights come on. I’m sorry brehs but people. Are not going to let you steal what they worked hard for. Regardless of what age you are especially if the owner has a weapon.

Only way a person can truly change is if they want to. There's no punishment someone can force on someone else that going to make you change.
Only plausible way your scenario would work would be to allow parents to do whatever they want or can to their juvenile children, including beating and or torturing them. You probably wouldn't support parents chaining their own kids in the bedroom with literal chains and keys from 9pm to 7am.
The kid made his own decisions. He didn't ask his parents permission or insight, advice or tips. He dug his own grave, he has to lay in it.

As someone that has been robbed before it's hard to have much sympathy here. If you are out breaking in cars? You could run up on the wrong person's stuff and they absolutely are not gonna have a sense of humor about being jacked.

Explain where the parents failed though. You're assuming his parents have never ever uttered the words "Come home" "be in the house by..." just because a parent says something with words, doesn't mean theyre good or bad, or that they are successes or failures...
What would the next step be after your parents say "be in the house before the street lights come on" and your not in the house?

it's kids from a certain household income bracket that are committing these crimes. wages are low and cost of living keeps increasing. parents/guardians have little to no discretionary income for their kids but that doesn't stop kids from wanting stuff.jobs that kids use to be able to get are no longer plentiful or no longer exist. these kids might get a taste for "easy" money doing something illegal and it's just a slippery slope right into the criminal underworld. they now KNOW how to "earn" money illegally.
yes having neglectful parents plays a role in this but the true driving force of these crimes by kids is wealth inequality. few kids of modest means will ever engage in these type of criminal acts to make money.

Were you robbed? Like someone confronted you and took your shyt? Or did you just have things taken without your consent or knowing? Those are 2 completely different things.
Someone walk up to you and saying gimme your shyt, or you going to your locker and someone took your shyt from it. 2 different things.
My car was stolen (for real). I came out it was gone. I didn't get carjacked, someone smashed the window, probably got the ignition with wires or a screw driver....
