why are you comparing the dogg pound to 2pac & raekwon? we're supposed to be comparing the dogg pound to 8ball & mjg.:comeon:

and think about what youre saying here. 8ball & mjg dropped an album in '95 too. yet their joint isn't even mentioned in the same breath as any of these artists. pac, raekwon, dogg pound, etc. its like you killed your own argument.

btw, i'd say that dogg food is on equal footing with MATW imo.

i compared the album to ob4cl & MATW because those two albums are legitimate classic's that dropped that same year..i didn't mention ball & G's "on top of the world" album becuz it wasn't their best album.."comin out hard" was,and thats a certified classic...the onlything dogg food has over COH is better production

and you do have a right to your opinion, but the reality is dogg food is not equal to MATW in any shape, form ,or fashion..that g-funk sound was played out pretty much(and died officially with the daz produced "the doggfather"album in 96 :snoop:),and pac album was the main album i heard throughout that year..

Could 8 ball or MJG out bar Kurupt?
Kurupt and his spectacular vernacular not seeing that real game eightball was spittingspitting

The majority of the people on this board are probably too young to know about eightball and mjg and what they meant to the game back then.

I don't mind you borrowing my lingo, but if youre gonna use it, then use it right.

what other things did 8ball & mjg have going for them?:what: they weren't that type of group. didn't have the appeal.

........so what were 8ball & mjg the main attraction of?

i'll wait.

the fugees weren't the dogg pound tho.

that's what im getting at here.

plus the dogg pound did more besides "dogg food".

Eightball & MJG have had major features from the 90's, last decade, and this one, yet they don't have the appeal? They have more appeal than Dogg Pound. They were one of the main attractions in The South before it really took off. It was Geto Boys, UGK, and Ball & G. Many artists and groups in The South and some outside of the South will attest to Ball & G being an influence on them.

Of course Dogg Pound has albums outside of Dogg Food, but most who voted for them based their vote solely on Dogg Food. Look at the posts in here stating that Dogg Food >>>>> Ball & G.

Uh...

- Eightball (not "Eightball & MJG") was on Mobb Deep's album and a lot of features because he was managed by Violator.
I maintain that MJG didn't get shown as much love because of that.

- Dogg Pound (Daz or Kurupt or both) were "mandatory features" for anybody anywhere who made it big...or little lol. You would be hard pressed to find many major urban artists without a DPG feature.

- wait...you're including gold and plat when talking about Ball & G, but not DPG? Why is that?

Who cares who managed who? The fact is Eightball (part of the group) appeared on that album. Eightball had several solo features that didn't involve Violator. Both of them appeared on Mase's Harlem World, T.I.'s Trap Muzik, and Puff's The Saga Continues amongst other albums including projects from prime CMR and No Limit.

Dogg Pound were never mandatory features like that. Now Snoop Dogg was a mandatory feature, not Dogg Pound.

I didn't include DPG's gold and plat albums because according to RIAA, they don't exist outside of Dogg Food. I knew Dogg Food was at least platinum. I looked Dogg Pound up on RIAA and found it was 2X Platinum. Nothing else was certified. I typed in Daz and found nothing. I typed in Kurupt and found nothing.

1. Eightball appeared on that Mobb Deep album because they wanted a southern feature and they were Violator artists themselves, so Chris Lighty called Eightball.

2. They were on The Saga Continues because Puff had just signed them to Bad Boy.

3. Oh - they were on a T.I. album? Great...Daz was on Urban Legend, too.

4. Oh - they were on CMR and No Limit albums? So were Daz & Kurupt.

5. Dogg Pound was always mandatory features. They were on albums from Heltah Skeltah, Scarface, Jay-Z, Cam'ron, Made Men...and that's just off top, and not counting the West Coast features, or the R&B features they did.

6. Kurupt has 2 gold albums, they used to print every album that went gold or plat in the year end Source issue.

7. Never mind how the lead single off Naughty By Nature's (grammy winning) album had Kay-Gee rockin' a Dogg Pound shirt.

1. Again, what relevance is it to why they were on Mobb Deep's album?

2. Eightball & MJG were still independent when The Saga Continues dropped. It was the same year that Ball dropped his second solo Almost Famous.

3-5. My point wasn't they were on T.I., No Limit, and CMR albums, I was simply listing some of the albums they made appearances on and ther's a lot of them. Every notable artist from The South has had a Eightball & MJG feature outside of OutKast (though they cite Coming Out Hard as an influence), Jeezy and Scarface. Master P, Ludacris, T.I., UGK, Lil' Jon, Young Buck, Rick Ross, and even newcomers like K.R.I.T. have had a feature from them. Even outside of the South, they've (one or both) been featured on albums from Mase, Twista, Jayo Felony, Shawnna, Too Short, and the Luniz. Sure, Daz & Kurupt may have been featured on some of the same albums. They've also had R&B features from Brian McKnight to J. Holiday.Eightball & MJG are still making notable appearances on albums 20+ years since their debut.

6. RIAA, who actually certifies albums >>>>> whatever they print in The Source. I can't even find certifications for their albums on Wiki.

7. Ross made a whole song dedicated to Eightball & MJG with "9 Piece". He even featured his former labelmates on the remix.

i mostly bump In My Lifetime & the first album they did with Bad Boy the most from Ball & G...i dont really listen to their solo work, though Ball got a few joints and MJG's first one was good.

I love Dogg Food, Cali Iz Active, Dillinger & Young Gotti, and Dogg Chit by Tha Dogg Pound (if im not forgetting something else i like in there)..i love most of Kurupt's albums, but dont really bump alot of Daz solo shyt.

gotta go with DPGC

I like 8ball & mjg, but they didn't mean anything to the game back then, outside of being heroes in flyover states.

:what: doing features has absolutely nothing to do with appeal.

taking nothing away from those groups that you mentioned, but the fact that most of those names were the main attractions in the south, is one of the reasons why the south didn't take off until no limit came thru.

yea, a lot of people voted just off the strength of dogg food, because that album is enough to put them ahead of groups like 8ball & mjg.

1. Again, what relevance is it to why they were on Mobb Deep's album?
what you should be asking yourself is:
what relevance is it to them being on mobb deep's album in the first place?

If an artist has no appeal, what makes someone want to collab with them? Appeal has a lot to do with features. People put other artists on their songs to add to the song and draw in more fans/audiences.

Saying Dogg Food is enough to put them ahead of a group with multiple great albums is disrespect. It's Daz & Kurupt vs. 8Ball & MJG, not the Dogg Food album vs. 8Ball & MJG.

Since you're using No Limit as an example, it was acts like an 8Ball & MJG and UGK that helped give Master P credibility in The South. He was making moves out West and came back down South and hooked up with Ball & G and UGK who were the biggest names on that Down South Hustlers compilation.

It's relevant that they were on Mobb Deep's album because it shows their reach extends beyond The South. The song even sounds like something that would've been on an 8Ball & MJG album or one of their solos.
