I don't remember any other shows where there are 3 young men and 3 young woman who live n close proximity, that share experiences.

You really can't compare other shows unless it fits that criteria.

THere hasn't been a sitcom done in this exact production style since.

There are a bunch of shows people watched in the 80s and 90s and forgot all about. Living Single is one of those shows. People watched Step by Step and Hanging With Mr. Cooper as well. It was something in the line up anchored by more popular shows. But I'll let y'all pretend to be diehard fans to get the narrative off. Do your thing gentleman.

It's a difference between saying the whole show focused on females and that the main character was a woman but in the cast had male characters that were just as prominent.

If Living Single wasn't groundbreaking then please name a series that did what it did from that era. Name a black sitcom from the early 90s with a predominantly female cast that made it at least 5 seasons.

Also the argument that shows mostly focused on families back them was mostly true. It wasn't all of them but a lot did.

The comparisons got popular within the last few years on the internet which I assume is how a lot of these people even got introduced to Living Single. Or got introduced to the idea. All my peoples including myself watched Living Single religiously when it dropped and the repeats and I literally asked anyone who I knew that was really into the show about the Friends comparison and none of them put 2 and 2 together in real time.

Also. I just had a convo wit my moms and she flat said she never made the connection as well. She said she always looked at Living Single as the modern black version of The Golden Girls. She never looked at Friends and thought of In Living Single.

I use to watch Living Single every week and I saw 1 or 2 seasons of Friends when it aired. I never put any kind of connection that they were similar. Figured it was a common concept for a sitcom. I didn’t think anything about it until a few years ago I read about NBC rejecting Living Single, saw how popular it was, and then created friends. Don’t know if it was true or not. Look my nikka. The first time I ever heard anything like that connection was in the 2000s. NOT in real time. Myself and alotta people I know who watched that show religiously didnt VISUALLY make the connection. Like I said my moms saw Living Single and automatically thought of Golden Girls. And she was damn near obsessed with Living Single. As far as the head of NBC that’s just hearsay and the main point is. Living Single in itself isn’t original in concept. Friends in concept is executed far differently than Living Single. Different enough for people not to fukking ATTACK David Schwimmer like he said something wrong. fukk outta here I’m all for calling out crackas for they bullshyt but dude didn’t deserve all this backlash he’s getting. He wasn’t the writer or producer of Friends he was a fukking ACTOR on it who was told the concept was based on 2 of the producer’s lives so regardless people shouldn’t be jumping on him the way they are. Even if Friends was made from the influence of Living Single. The concepts were too fundamentally different to call Friends a reboot. It’s a completely different show.
