Yeah. And people are doing that yearly thing where they remember Living Single and act like they ever gave a damn about it. King Latifah will forever be known as Cleo, not for Living Single.

Wasn't a bad show at all but no one ever mentions it among the greats. :mjlol: Black Twitter man, so see through like their white liberal overlords.

The hell are you talking about. I never met a black person in my age range that didn't watch Living Single. That was an essential part of the Fox lineup.

There are a bunch of shows people watched in the 80s and 90s and forgot all about. Living Single is one of those shows. People watched Step by Step and Hanging With Mr. Cooper as well. It was something in the line up anchored by more popular shows. But I'll let y'all pretend to be diehard fans to get the narrative off. Do your thing gentleman.

They litterally stole the idea for an existing black show living single when they created friends :gucci:. Surely you see the irony in his statement.

A bunch of single twenty somethings was not a novel idea. Three's Company? Adding in additional twenty somethings does not make it groundbreaking. :mjlol:

Wow they litterally saw the concept and within a year used the exact same one lol. Of course all t.v. shows are variations of existing ideas but you can't deny the timing.

See the thing is I fukked wit Living Single heavy. But nikkas is ODin. Even the cast of Living Single is salty because they had a choice of names for the show and Friends as a name was pitched to them first. But that happens VERY often. Names get put in a pool and swapped out etc etc. That’s literally a big part of the business. But I’ve NEVER looked at Friends as the same thing as In Living Single and I watched both heavy.

There's nothing unique about an ensemble cast of twenty somethings living in a city and romancing each other off and on.

Also Living Single focused more focused on the four women while the two male leads were basically co-stars, especially in the beginning. The three male and female leads on Friends were focused upon equally.

Friends copying Living Single is a reach but hey if y'all wanna die on that hill......

Look DS9 is a very different show than Babylon 5. But it's common knowledge that DS9 is a ripoff of B5. It's no different here. Friends is the white version of Living Single. Did they make changes to fit the target demographic? Of course! :whoa: Does it therefore feel like two different shows? Of course! :whoa: But Friends is still, for lack of a better word, a ripoff of Living Single.

You could reboot Living Single and make a black version of Friends and because of the demographic targeting it would still be two different shows.

I'm for both. :manny:

Reba,
Ally Mcbeal,
Murphy Brown
Sex In The City
Girlfriends
Mary Tyler Moore
Will and Grace
The Nanny
Laverne & Shirley
I Love Lucy

Need I say more? And there’s fukkin countless in the 2010s.
Most of those star a woman but don't focus primarily on a group of women like Living Single did.

The men in Living Single were side characters at best and TC left the show at one point.

Stuff like Sex in the City isn't a sitcom either. I'm sorry but it was hard to have a sitcom that pretty much only focused on women back then. Especially a black sitcom. You start naming classic black shows from that era or period and you're gonna struggle to find more than a couple that primarily focused on a group of women like Living Single did. You has stuff like Martin and Fresh Prince.

Fam stop moving goal posts. Those show’s main characters are women and have men on the sidelines basically. Same as with Living Single. Living Single wasn’t some groundbreaking shyt fam and it wasn’t treated as such while it was out either. FRIENDS ain’t even some all women show. Everyone was the main character on that and that furthers my point that it wasn’t some straight ripoff of Living Single.

It's a difference between saying the whole show focused on females and that the main character was a woman but in the cast had male characters that were just as prominent.

If Living Single wasn't groundbreaking then please name a series that did what it did from that era. Name a black sitcom from the early 90s with a predominantly female cast that made it at least 5 seasons.

Also the argument that shows mostly focused on families back them was mostly true. It wasn't all of them but a lot did.

I have no data or research on either one, but I remember the day Living Single first aired and I watched it front and center...I also remember when friends first came out, but I never watched it...I knew about it but never gave it a shot. However, I never equated the two as being similar...I guess I can see it now for the sake of discussion, but back then I didn't see it or notice it. Like a few others have said...single people living together in a comedy wasn't exactly anything new....so Living Single as an idea....wasn't exactly "ground breaking"

Although it had a different format, I just saw it in the same vein as Martin, Hangin with Mr. Cooper, A Different World etc etc...they were all black cast 20somethings getting into 30 minute situations
