This. There is a difference between getting benched for Draymond Green over getting benched for Kelly Olynyk and Jonas Jerebko

David Lee has to be better than those guys and at worst the 2nd best big on the team...unless his skills vaporized after his injuries last year. But even in the Finals he looked like he could still play.

LOL I honestly don't know. I didn't see any Celtics games in the beginning of the season, but I've seen a few over the last few weeks and to see his role nowadays is shocking. I plead ignorance if he fell off that hard.

Came to say this. At worst, he should be getting the bulk of the backup big minutes. He can still play offense and has always been a good passer. Absolutely no reason Jerebko should be getting minutes over Lee. I don't think Sully should be getting more playing time either, but I'm sure that'll ruffle some feathers.

Bottom line is Lee is a piss poor defender that lacks to ability to comprehend help defense, pick and d and roll whatever defensive schemes the Celtics are trying to do. Getting points for most coaches is a non factor if you can't defend a lick. I think from a coaching standpoint he is a player set in his ways and he's not gonna be anything more beyond what he is. Might as well see if you can teach the you née guys new tricks

Sullinger even though he's struggled recently has still vastly outplayed Lee this year. There is no argument for Lee to be playing more minutes than him.

Jerebko is trash but Stevens likes him because he can play multiple positions and can stretch the floor. And his defense isn't as bad as Lee's either.

You can't be a big and be a total defensive liability in today's NBA. Looking at his body he doesn't seem to like the weight room and he doesn't have a good wingspan and if he does he doesn't use it defensively. You have a better chance of being a total offensive liability and getting minutes if you're good at defense like a Bismack Biyombo. I can't recall D-Lee ever blocking a shot as a Warrior, I know he's done it but I can't remember it happening.

Yeah he's not known for the best defense but he's still can consistently get you double doubles I would say...now I'm not saying he should get starter minutes but not play AT ALL? I mean I see a lot of talk about Jerebko I saw a couple Celtics games this year I didn't even notice he was on the floor. Obviously he's not taking Sulinger's minutes or even Olynyk's but Jerebko?

Anyway y'all made good points in this thread, he might jst not be on the right team

The problem is, a lot of y'all look at it and you see the Celtics, a mediocre team and you see David Lee, a guy who's made a couple all-star teams, had a couple 20/10 seasons and figure "Oh well he should definitely be playing". Nah.

The Celtics have a -2.8 Net Rating with Lee on the court. A +6.0 Net rating when he's off the court.

Hence, why like I've repeated throughout this thread, you are not going to find many Celtic fans complaining about him being benched. The only people who think this is outrageous are non-Celtic fans who likely haven't watched half the team's games.

Sully's shooting below 42% as a big man and Jerebko's shooting is so bad it's laughable. I won't argue their defense is better than Lee's, but their offensive abilities are nowhere near as good as Lee's.

Sullinger takes a lot of long jumpers that bring his percentages down but he's not really a detriment to the team. They have a 105.3 offensive rating with Sullinger in the lineup and it drops to 98.9 with David Lee in.

Jerebko is a bum, if it was up to me him & Lee both would've gotten the Keith Bogans treatment but I can see why Stevens would prefer playing him
