It's a "bad situation" because he made it one
He was brought here and giftwrapped a starting spot, with Ainge hoping he would be able to showcase him for a trade. He started all through preseason and through the first 3 or 4 games in the season but got sent to the bench because of how awful he was.
It has little to do with Stevens wanting to play bigs who shoot 3's. Last year he started Brandon Bass & Tyler Zeller, neither shoot 3's. This year he opened the season up with Lee & Zeller, neither shoot 3's. Amir Johnson has been starting for the vast majority of the season and if we're calling him a stretch big then the standards are extremely low.
Amir and Zeller are both better than Olynyk and Jerebko and at least in Amirs case can be a passable defender some nights....

I've been to two Celtics games this season, against the bulls and hawks. Lee played about 10-15 minutes in both (approximately). He does a nice job on the offensive end, and can get a better shot off when he has the ball in the post. Defensively, like you guys have said, I guess he's a downgrade.
Olynyk is visibly better, and can shoot from outside and 3. Jerekbo is a worse version of olynyk, he didn't do shyt in the games I was at except brick 3s. I guess if Stevens wants his bigs to have the ability to play on the perimeter he'll stick with jerekbo

Lee has not performed better than Olynyk on either end. Just like his entire career, stats do not tell the whole story when it comes to David Lee.
Jerebko is trash and shouldn't be playing. But neither should Lee. I'd prefer if they were both waived.
Like I said before, you will be hard-pressed to find Celtic fans that are upset with Lee being benched

This. There is a difference between getting benched for Draymond Green over getting benched for Kelly Olynyk and Jonas Jerebko
David Lee has to be better than those guys and at worst the 2nd best big on the team...unless his skills vaporized after his injuries last year. But even in the Finals he looked like he could still play.
