David Banner has always been awakened. Yes, he made some records that people might lump into the "ignorant" category. Yes, he's made records that were misogynist, but Banner's also made music like this his whole career:

(We from a place) Where Medger Evers live and Medger Evers died
(We from a place) What we chokin' on sticky green to get high
(We from a place) Where ya used to come in the summertime
Now y'all don't mention us in ya rhyme, we kin folk
Yeah we broke, some talk with a drawl, but bytch we ball
Runnin through with two tecs screamin, "fukk all y'all!"
We from a place where da rebel flag still ain't burnin'
New schools, but the black kids still ain't learnin' about shyt!
But hit da streets and learn to pimp on a bytch
(Five-oh!) Aw, shyt, throw yo crack in the ditch!
And y'all nikka run, y'all nikka run like Forrest Gump
They got pumps and them crooked cops love to dump
In Mississippi

David Banner, "Mississippi" 2nd verse

Mama ain't got no cash, daddy ain't got no doe
So daddy went to my mama and started pimpin that ho
Man it's hard times, nikkas ain't got shyt
Nothin but billy clubs to they head and they ass kicked
Heroin in they vein, cocaine up in they brain
Man what you expect, America gave us pain
So fukk it, now we thugs, ??? mean drugs
And takin mean mugs, and fill 'em with those slugs
I gave up fake gods, and Jesus don't look like us
Why y'all think we gon' kill and just don't give a hot fukk
Devil that's how you made us, hiatus up in the pen
Man we came out blind, that's why we goin back in
But God, I'mma teach 'em, reach 'em up in these streets
Bush, I'm runnin' up in this shyt like a track meet
You murdered, up in Texas where killin' is such a sin
The first month you in office you started killin' again

But shyt, we just some nikkas and that's how the game go
Y'all took us up out the state moved us straight out to Death Row
Y'all may of, made us slaves but never make us your ho
God, you my pimp so let's start exposin' these hoes
Y'all judges some weak pussies, y'all preaches some rapin' fags
These people that made us slaves, these nikkas wavin' they flags
America ain't shyt but home of the hot lick
They hang us all by rope, then laugh and cut off our dikk

David Banner, "Bush"

This for my boys in the pen and my thugs on the county farms
If it's war then I swear I'm gonna raise them arms
And come and getcha, send me a kite
And I promise that I'll write ya back or smoke a fat sack in ya name
I ain't no bytch or no ho or no trick
Tryna ride a nikka dikk just to make a quick hit
I ain't writin' love songs for prissy bytches
I make songs for the queens who lost sight in the hood
Mayne, I made some bullshyt, but it's good
And if ya see me then you see this shyt across my chest
I pray to God, let my spirit do the rest
I pray to God, let my spirit do the rest

David Banner, "So Trill"

^^^ the bolded line is him speaking on some of the songs he made even on that album. These are lyrics from 2003. These songs are on the same album as "Like A Pimp".

Thank u,its obvious cats missed out on his early shyt outside of Like A Pimp....meanwhile they eat up everyword from they favorite conscience rapper who doesnt do a damn thing or speak up for black folks unless its in a album they SELLING....Banner speaks out at the risk of losing out on scoring more movies or gatorade commercials, but he's the phony one.

Somehow these conscience rappera who do do nothing but speak to the choir and profit are risk takers....But someone speaking out knowing they could anger they choir which would hurt they profit,is somehow looked at as a phony:patrice:

Sure ot can be,but it can go either way...Id say these conscience rappers have shown themselves to be the phonies time and time again.

I haven't fukked with Banner ever since the ridiculous amount of double talk on The Greatest Story Never Told. On the first track he's literally calling out black people for only shooting each other:

I think for the most part, our generation is filled with a bunch of fukkin' cowards
And I say that man, because we beef amongst each other...
We kill and we shootin each other in our own hoods, and bang each other
We won't bang cops, ya know I'm sayin?
And one thing that these motherfukkers in America know...
They know we-they know we ain't gon' do shyt (Do shyt- Do shyt)

and raps this:

nikkas, I'm just sayin, When do we stop playin?
When do we stop pimpin and start sprayin?
Fifty shots for every cop that popped Sean Bell, his body layin
But they acquit, because they know that our generation won't do shyt!
Nothin, nada, but every rapper is a shotta or a don dadda, or a killa
But you ain't killin nothin in this piece, unless it's another nikka

Then not even two tracks later, this song drops:

:dwillhuh::why::comeon:

So with all respect to Banner, but dude will have to stop talking and start taking action if he wants me to ever take him serious again.

Damn...Weezy killed that shyt :leon:

I'm a pill popping animal, a syrup sipping nikka....I'm so high you couldn't reach me with a fukking antenna

Prime Weezy :ohlawd:

I agree with what he is saying....

And he has mentioned several times that he used to rap about a bunch of shyt that he is ashamed of now so I definitely think he has evolved into the way he feels now....
thats what these c00ns and trolls dont realize. Most times, the person that has actually lived that life and has experienced the shyt 1st hand are the most qualified to speak. Kinda like kids that are sent to those Scared Straight programs. People that have actually lived that life and has realized their past mistakes are often the most effective voices.

Crabs in a barrel ass nikkas right on cue:snoop:

But....but....he made that type of music years ago!

So the fukk what? Dudes matured and awakened to the fukk shyt that's gone on, nothing can take away from the real he's been speaking as of late. Swear nikkas fukking make me sick, someone tries to be positive and build and the first thing y'all do is tear him down and cherry pick reasons to shyt on him. fukkin monkey ass nikkas all y'all do is throw shyt.:pacspit: If there was a race war, Wed be the first ones wiped out cuz nikkas are too busy going at each other for any fukkin reason
bunch of c00ns, trolls and agents on this site breh. They always expose themselves in these types of threads

It will take a miracle to turn things around, time alone will not do the trick. The Asap Rocky's of this world are not going away anytime soon, and the powers pulling the strings behind the scenes will make sure of it.
Does anyone really think at this point positive Black power hip hop would ever be allowed to take root again? Do you not get the feeling where we are now is exactly what they wanted? Is this all a big mistake or by design?

Who saw how they did Lauryn..they quickly cut her off when it became clear what she was about by crafting a tale she hated cacs and was mad or something and that was about the last time you saw a Black female artist that doesnt look and sound like a prostitute. The situation is hopeless. the only option is to clear out the garbage rappers physically or contractually, but how?
Hip hop is embarassing today because the previous generation failed to pass on any lasting lessons and knowledge to the bobby shmurda generation. Extreme Ignorance was excused as entertainment and keeping it real, now we are reaping the fruits of that.
Notice only Banner and Mike ever really say something..the rest of the older heads are silent for a reason, cause they are also responsible for where hip hop is today.
Its by design. But WE are not aware of this.

I only looked at page 1, and 4 of this thread and it's amazing to me how posters will point out Banner's hypocrisy which is fair in my opinion. However, what's really noteworthy is, I haven't seen anyone dispute what he said either. Whether he's a hypocrite is neither here nor there if what he's saying is valid. And it is.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're catching feelings over what he said, but I'll play. Let's say...........hmmmmmmmmmm..........KRS or AG expressed the same sentiments.......would that make the words and thoughts expressed, valid?

im really looking forward to the answer for this question.

What if he's changed though? A person should continue to grow and attain more maturity, knowledge, and wisdom correct?

This is why son is full of shyt. He didn't have any conscious conversion, or some growth from being a lost soul like Malcolm X.

He was always "conscious." He was just excusing promoting bufoonery and negativity while he was trying to be a star. He gave a speech at the BET awards talking about "There's nothing wrong with hip-hop except bootleggers and limewire." And he was using the completely transparent self-interest-driven justification that thought-provoking music doesn't sell, that's why he makes shyt like "Like A Pimp" on that BET panel. Then he gave interviews bragging about how he was making money in movies. Then he dropped a wack, confused album that flopped.

He was seeking celebrity and money and made no attempt to hide it. Then when that didn't work out, he got a new look, a new image, became a cultural doomsayer, doubling down on "consciousness" and positivity and his views did a 180...at age 40. fukk outta here. :camby: He's never been an impressive emcee or thinker...just a guy who loves hearing himself bloviate.

And David Banner ain't even the Hulk's real name. It's Bruce Banner. He was David Banner on the corny 70's TV series.

That's my problem with Banner, he knew better but still chose to make ignorant music for the sake of profit. If he was genuinely lost when he was younger and later saw the error of his ways I'd be more willing to support him, but this is a dude that knew promoting negativity was wrong and did it anyway for the money and fame. If he was still hot musically he'd be begging for the opportunity to jump on a track with the same rappers he's denigrating now.

I would've thought that people would have learned from Master P that all of these clowns are only worried about their own self-interest and trying to do whatever it takes to stay relevant. In 2009 P was talking about cleaning up rap music and creating Better Black TV, and now he's back on the block making videos about catching bodies.
