Like a nikka can't grow from shyt he did 10 years ago:francis:ago
The nikka was in his 30s when he was doing it :laff:
Its not like he was a teen/early-20s rapper who was lost and enthralled with the "fast women, money, drugs, violence" lifestyle, the nikka was 32 still making c00n music :heh:
He's just now reaching the consciousness Tupac had when he was 16 :bryan:
He's behind Joey Bada$$ :dead:
And wasn't he testifying in front of Congress about how how he should have free speech to rap about foolishness

Oh, and let's not act like a Black man can't change and have a different stance on Hip Hop culture, it's music and it's artists...especially in this environment. I never been a fan of his music but Lol at n!ggas bringing up old ass videos and songs to try to discredit this man. Nothing in those videos are abhorrent enough to decimate the absolute truths he's been speaking in these Vlad videos.
His stance on hip-hop wouldn't matter had he not made money/bytches/weed music, literally his entire career is based on his club music.
We're acting like his opinion is more valuable than Yasiin Bey/Talib Kweli/Common/Outkast/KRS-One/Lupe Fiasco, when they were doing exactly what he's doing now, almost 20 years ago.
I don't excuse a grown man who's just now discovering the light, especially when's over twice my age. :camby:

This is why son is full of shyt. He didn't have any conscious conversion, or some growth from being a lost soul like Malcolm X.

He was always "conscious." He was just excusing promoting bufoonery and negativity while he was trying to be a star. He gave a speech at the BET awards talking about "There's nothing wrong with hip-hop except bootleggers and limewire." And he was using the completely transparent self-interest-driven justification that thought-provoking music doesn't sell, that's why he makes shyt like "Like A Pimp" on that BET panel. Then he gave interviews bragging about how he was making money in movies. Then he dropped a wack, confused album that flopped.

He was seeking celebrity and money and made no attempt to hide it. Then when that didn't work out, he got a new look, a new image, became a cultural doomsayer, doubling down on "consciousness" and positivity and his views did a 180...at age 40. fukk outta here. :camby: He's never been an impressive emcee or thinker...just a guy who loves hearing himself bloviate.

And David Banner ain't even the Hulk's real name. It's Bruce Banner. He was David Banner on the corny 70's TV series.

How did he sell him out? Surely you're not talking about the statements in "The Wall Came Tumbling Down" :sas1:

Put it into perspective. MLK was looked at as a beacon and symbol of blackexcellence. Back in the day folk would smack u in the face if u even fixed your lips to speak bad about the king (this was before the cynical internet fukkboys and #Newblacks was mainstream). Every black grandma had a picture of white Jesus right next to MLK photo on the wall and you best not touch it . So for the decades after his death the folks closest to him only spoke of him in glowing terms. Of course any rational person would think he had some flaws, but why exploit them when he did so much good? Then Abernathy's book comes out, warts and all and it was dead smack in the middle of the King Holiday debate that was enabled by white supremacist politicians in places such as Arizona and South Carolina. They were trying to use old doctored up FBI and CIA slander campaign materials. It was bad timing and it was a cash out for a slightly bitter old man who felt marginalized in history at the very tail end of his life.

:ehh:

He could've felt that way.... I'm not sure... He was a great man though at the end of the day....... which just goes to show you that we're all flawed....

He came by my Grandma's spot twice when I was a lil kid........... even had Sunday dinner with us once........ I just hate to have his entire legacy marred by a couple of pages in his book....... It's a great read if anyone is interested in checking it out

I'ma huge Pac stan but let's keep it a buck.

The nikka would talk all this black peace/love your brother Panther shyt and at the same time say some shyt like "My 44 make sure all yo kids don't grow"
Same nikka thas made keep your head up turned around & made "Toss It Up" and "How Do You Want I"t..bro was a walkin contradiction, at least musically. He wanted to be Malcom/Marcus Garvey and Monster Kody Scott all at the same time.

Show me a young nikka who's not a walking contradiction.....Especially an intelligent/outspoken/defiant young black man.

The world is going to force you to contradict yourself. It's one of the devils tricks.

I only looked at page 1, and 4 of this thread and it's amazing to me how posters will point out Banner's hypocrisy which is fair in my opinion. However, what's really noteworthy is, I haven't seen anyone dispute what he said either. Whether he's a hypocrite is neither here nor there if what he's saying is valid. And it is.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're catching feelings over what he said, but I'll play. Let's say...........hmmmmmmmmmm..........KRS or AG expressed the same sentiments.......would that make the words and thoughts expressed, valid?

The hell I give a damn if these nikkas been rapping consciencse for 20 years:dahell:...What yall fail to realize is alot of those nikkas rap that because they CANT rap about the club, bytches, flossing in a entertaining fashion...and conscience rap/nerd rap is what they excell at.

They not doing nothing but selling you a image same way a commercial rapper might.....how come majority of these nikkas yall speak of,be absolutley SILENT when shyt happens unless they album coming out:mjlol:....How come when they do interviews with the white media they are alot more diplomatic and less abrassive then they were when i heard em on they album:patrice:

Meanwhile for yeaars when Banners been asked to speak on behalf of hiphop,or speak on black issues he's been absolutley honest and unapolagetic:banderas:

fukk these conscience rappers yall claim "been doin it"....they been sellin you a image succesfully that yall fall for everytime...."Bu bu but why would anybody rap smart when ignorant is more profitable"....because they would go broke tryna keep up with nikkas who do ignorance excellent...why not make a decent living off a bunch of naive people who eat up everything they say,not to mention in a pool of less competetion:sas2:?
