Seems people are skimming over the part he said here. Though the counterargument already made is that he isn't known for these roles so the way people may come at him is different. But at the same time, to him as an actor he probably values all his work, not just his most famous so I can also see where he is coming from. He would probably feel some sort of way if someone told him but yeah no one cares about those roles and so forget that but again, him as an actor probably is thinking "I don't just play roles focused on race so why does every discussion I have has to be about race".

The Fades ain’t about race, Psychoville ain’t about race, Skins ain’t about race, Chatroom ain’t about race, Johnny English Reborn ain’t about race. But that almost gets erased. There’s a narrative that is pushed,” he added.

I get where he is coming from.

On one hand i understand the GIST of what he’s saying.

On the other hand when you happily TAKE roles like Get Out, Black Panther, and Queen & Slim, what the fukk do you think your going to be asked about Danny boy? Your going to be asked about the themes that are prevalent in your work. His biggest film role, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe, and BAFTA; was for a film that featured African American body harvesting. Skins didn’t get you in the conversation as one of the greatest actors of your generation. Nor did any of those other flicks. And then you have the NERVE to want to play Fred Hampton? What kind of questions do you think your going to get on THAT press tour Danny boy?

Facts he doing movies thats centered around race

Tired of talking about race, yet put yourself in positions where it’s going to be talked about.

Tired of talking about race, yet come in threads that discuss race.

:francis:

Dudes is confused.

Basically, that's why I'm ignoring most of these post in this thread - defending him. I don't have the energy this week.

This unattractive man stays auditioning for Black American roles that are centered around RACE --- specifically the experience of an ethnic group in America.

YET, when you go on press tours for those films -- and/or upcoming films you don't wanna talk about it.

He set himself up to be DEFINED by Race - when his ass took or accepted every role he parlayed his ass into.

It's a slap in the face to Black Americans that he thinks he can go in and out of talking about "Race."

Cause him and his friends like him....benefited from "RACE" when he was taking about brit actors not getting roles/recognition... and that's why he comes to the US. ... but now it's an issue talking about race when it doesn't benefit him.

I'm thinking he meant he doesn't want to be an activist for it, but he will still do his part. Which is okay. During a movement, not everybody is built or wants to lead. He can still do his part.

At the same time this has a sense of "I'm not like them, you don't have to worry about me cacs" vibe to it. But it's not like he is shiiting on blacks like some actors/actresses inadvertently do.

I don't really have a problem with this.

The problem is, he's not "ADOS", plus he's a celebrity.

If he DID speak on race, then he's speaking on ADOS behalf when he shouldn't

:hula:

If he WAS "ADOS" and spoke on race, then he'd be criticized for being an out of touch celeb

:hula:

Since he's NOT ADOS and DOESN'T wanna speak on it, the saaaaame people that go on allllll day about how different we and our experiences are get up set with him for acknowledging it.

I'm just gonna say it... a lot of you are miserable fukks led by a miserable duo :yeshrug:

Who's this post supposed to be directed at?

Everything is about RACE.

That's why his ass didn't get any of the roles in any of the UK films his ass mentioned..LOL.

Can he name any big UK films with Black actors - on that level? Nah. Wonder why?

Cause he Black...oh my bad.... he's not Black... he's Daniel.

If he really wanted to distance himself and show the world how serious he is about his statements, he’d back out of that Fred Hampton role. That would let the world know he’s serious.

He won’t do that, though. Interview about how we need to start “doing” yet won’t “do” or take action himself. He’s no better than the folks he was trying to chastise

Some of the movies listed there are british...
Skins was a popular british tv show

Also I think you guys are conveniently ignoring what he said here.
“I’m not going to ignore that I’m surrounded by [racial issues], but I’m not defined by it,” the 30-year-old said.

“I’m just Daniel, who happens to be black.”
The bolded is a perfectly understandable perspective and in no way c00ning or failing to acknowledge racial issues. But at the end of the day, you still have to live your life for yourself and as an individual. You can do this without being delusion or ignoring racial issues but anyone who actually wants to pursue interests and hobbies and enjoy life outside of being all-consumed with racial issues 24/7 can understand this perspective. Because if that is all you consume you won't be productive in other aspects of life and the shyt is fukking depressing to constantly focus on and it will kill your motivation

The dude is married to a black woman and black as fukking night which I'm sure he has been reminded of by people in his life before. Just because he is British, the unsaid implication is that he doesn't understand racism. You think there aren't racial issues in Britain?
