Dudes in here mad because he's an actor who just wants to stay in his lane.

What's wrong with that?

Does the world need more rich, detached entertainers speaking on behalf of the common man?

I think there's enough of those
The problem is, he's not "ADOS", plus he's a celebrity.

If he DID speak on race, then he's speaking on ADOS behalf when he shouldn't

:hula:

If he WAS "ADOS" and spoke on race, then he'd be criticized for being an out of touch celeb

:hula:

Since he's NOT ADOS and DOESN'T wanna speak on it, the saaaaame people that go on allllll day about how different we and our experiences are get up set with him for acknowledging it.

I'm just gonna say it... a lot of you are miserable fukks led by a miserable duo :yeshrug:

Black people and celebrities always have to bring up their race and struggles in so many interviews. Whereas someone like Bruce Willis or Brad Pitt wouldnt even get a question about race in every situation. shyt gets tiring, and old. Dont forget who you are, but we shouldnt have to talk about the struggle all the time.

hmm ok well let's put it this way. if brad pitt (i know he's gentile but fukk with me) was cast as david greene in school ties and as itzhak stern in schindler's list would he not get a questions about anti-semitism and or jewish oppression? no question, during the roll out he'd have to address those issues. now imagine if that were david schwimmer my G. you'd really have to crank that up like 20 notches

i mean son has taken some heavy race related roles and is actually going to be playing fred hampton. fred hampton of all people... and he doesn't want to discuss racial oppression? nonsense, absolute nonsense. ain't nobody black asked him to be the representative of black people. he's making this up. he needs to keep it a band and say he wants the roles because they're juicy and allows him to display his talents but does not in any way want the ofays to think he's one of those pesky militants that make them feel uncomfortable

I understand what he is talking about. I feel like it's a nuanced issue. When you're a black actor, you are largely stereotyped into certain roles. He doesn't want his race to pigeonhole him when he has the talent to do any role.

On the other hand, when you do films like Get Out, Black Panther, Queen and Slim, and that Fred Hampton joint, you're going to be asked about it.

Overall, he wants the chance to play a diversity of characters and doesn't want his race to hold him back. Thats normal for any actor.
These are roles he goes out of his way to be part of though. He directly contacts directors telling them he wants to play these race centered roles.

if he’s so tired of it he should be going after raceless roles where he can voice act a dinosaur or something

If that the case sir he need to stop taking roles in movies where racism is the central theme because how is he going to promote movies like Fred hampton and think he not going have to talk about the racism that exist in a america it :mjtf: if he feel that way he need to get on his will smith grind and start taking on roles where racism is not the central theme of the movie:martin:

Na
In his defense get out was about a racially naïve guy who hot caught up and saved by his Black American friend.
In that sense I’d say he was perfect for the role.
Problem they wanna do promo for the movie based off race

And regardless it's a racial movie

Then he got mad at Samuel L Jackson for saying his piece

He's not wrong :manny:

The part about doing speaks to a bigger issue, why can't we do shyt as a collective rather then looking for spokespeople
