NOTHING he said here is wrong. Bunch of folks in this thread are just seeking to be outraged. I mean you can disagree but this shyt is reasonable if its disagreeable at least

You can acknowledge racism and racists exist without letting these forces dominate your life and everything you do.

I really feel him on the doer part. I'm the same way. I hate people who just sit around and talk about shyt and problems. My first question is always "WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?". People who sit around always talking about the negative without doing shyt about it are unproductive and a drain. They are professional whiners and complainers and I got little tolerance for it and he doesn't either. For example. that story about the chick whining about white people moving away from black people. Instead of begging whites for acceptance, you need to start promoting and seeking out how you can find communities and create communities where you don't find the need to have white people around you.

This dude can make a movie about digging a hole and it sounds like certain people want to ask him as a black man what challenges do you experience trying to dig a hole. The nikka isn't going to wake up one morning and forget he is black. He lived his entire life being black and as far as the ADOS vs Non-ados angle people are trying to spin, the implication is that he doesn't have experience being a black man and because he is from england shyt is sweet which isn't the case.

I know this is the TLR, and folks use this section for race talk instead of The Root, but despite people online being all consumed with race every minute of their lives it seems online, in real life, there are many aspects and areas of life that are not attached to race that people like to enjoy and experience. If you constantly consume and stew in this shyt constantly, it will drive you nuts. Just like stewing in negativity constantly brings nothing positive to your life. You can't be all consumed with this shyt all the time and live a healthy happy life. Life isn't a TLR thread.

The issue is that he repeatedly gets involved with projects that revolve around these topics... Get Out, Black Panther and Queen & Slim for example ARE specifically racial, so it’s not far fetched to be asked these type of questions. It’s not like he’s playing MBJ’s role in That Awkward Moment or Chronicle and being asked about race. He’s gearing up to play FRED HAMPTON which people already don’t like because he’s not American... to essentially say he’s ‘tired’ or ‘bored’ of talking about race is disrespectful to the Chairman at the very least... on that press tour they are literally going to talk about nothing else. If you’re tired of it, why do you keep signing up?

Seems people are skimming over the part he said here. Though the counterargument already made is that he isn't known for these roles so the way people may come at him is different. But at the same time, to him as an actor he probably values all his work, not just his most famous so I can also see where he is coming from. He would probably feel some sort of way if someone told him but yeah no one cares about those roles and so forget that but again, him as an actor probably is thinking "I don't just play roles focused on race so why does every discussion I have has to be about race".

I get where he is coming from.

The roles listed are ones he did in the UK, like his Black Mirror episode. He left Britain to ‘make it’ in America and ‘made it’ by specifically playing racial Black American characters. That was a strategy used to become a recognizable name now he is ‘bored’ of race movies? Yet still in talks to play Fred Hampton? Why not leave mainstream Hollywood then since he was obviously doing his more preferred roles in the UK, right?

Basically, that's why I'm ignoring most of these post in this thread - defending him. I don't have the energy this week.

This unattractive man stays auditioning for Black American roles that are centered around RACE --- specifically the experience of an ethnic group in America.

YET, when you go on press tours for those films -- and/or upcoming films you don't wanna talk about it.

He set himself up to be DEFINED by Race - when his ass took or accepted every role he parlayed his ass into.

It's a slap in the face to Black Americans that he thinks he can go in and out of talking about "Race."

Cause him and his friends like him....benefited from "RACE" when he was taking about brit actors not getting roles/recognition... and that's why he comes to the US. ... but now it's an issue talking about race when it doesn't benefit him.

STFU Ugly!

It's always a way to respectfully speak on a topic or for a group of people you may not belong too -- but choose to continue to protray and act like.

He could have said - as a insert ethnicity-brit - I don't have the same experiences and history with race and racism as the average African American. Then list some ways how and why.

Therefore, I don't feel comfortable speaking on race or being defined as my race. I am BLANK - and I can only say that the issues AA's and other Black people America with generational history are very real and deserved to be aired, heard and respected.

I wouldn't go to any country with a black ethnic group that is not mine that has been dealing with a set of issues or a specific history tied to RACE and be like ... fukk all that ... I'm not defined by race .. I'm Me.

Then list all the movies that are majority white in America that I know I could never get or got token roles and be like... See they are not about Race!

But, knowing and everyone else know you came to that country to play the roles for the ones tied to race/ethnicity of those people. Because you couldn't get any large ones in your country cause they aint got none.

He looks dumb and disrespectful.

What would have been your feelings towards that statement if he said it exactly how you just worded it?

Where in America can you be black and not be defined by your blackness? I don't get this.

Can you name one actor who never spoke on race?

If a black child gets shot who's white america gonna talk to for opinions?

Do you know how many people in America have a job due to the fact they know how to play the racial issue well? How many politicans got into office in these conservative racist towns due to pandering to the population and keeping the area "safe"?

Wasn't it last year I think an Alaskan offical made a statement wanting to keep Alaska white?

And this dude who is a black actor is expecting not to be defined by his race in America?

When we got these white liberals out here who can't go 5 days without speaking on some sort of unity with all races?

This dude is damn near special, last time I checked even Denzel gets asked racial questions now and then. Obama gets asked too....

Dude is clearly a idiot not knowing how Philanthropy or America works.

You won't know what the response will be until people like Daniel start doing it.

Like I said earlier, hostility will always be directed at Daniel and not to mention other non black American actors no matter what they do or say as long as they are performing acting roles in America. If one of them scratches their head a certain way it will generate hostility.

Honestly (like many of you), I dream of the day they all pack up their bags leave the states and bring their collective talents and pool their resources together and build up some form of black industry here. At one time we were doing better and had more representation here but somehow it lost momentum. But that's not your problem obviously, that's something they need to work out.

If I knew Daniel personally, I'd advise him to drop the Fred Hampton role.
