My full quote was "narrative of immigrants only succeeding by siphoning resources meant for AAs"
In this case,I'm drectly speaking about the push to have legally recognizes categories for Black ethnicity(which I am in support of). The narrativ was that Africans/Islanders were taking advantage of loopholes or silently falseflagging to siphon resources specifically meant for AAs" , and that was the only reason members of those groups were succeeding. Several people have written that exact same sentiment here. Implying that children of immigrants would otherwise fail, if not eating from the plates that were made for other people.
I've always acknowedged that the rights fought for, the protections afforded to ALL Americans is directly because of the struggles of African Americans to force those changes.....culminating in the legislation that passed because of the Civil Rights Movement. If you're not a white male straight WASP, those laws have benefitted EVERY single person who steps foot or who has been born in this country. Black immigrant groups benefit from those fights. Nobody can or would try to dispute those facts.
The other stuff people were running with "Black immigrants only get ahead because they sneak in under provisions meant for AAs" whites ALLOW Black immigrants to succeed (over AAs)....was propaganda.
Well, lets address what the article and stats say.
I assume they say that about non-ados in academia because most of these students already have a advances degree and/or funds to go to these institutions.
Then they go on to apply for and accept admission and/or scholarahips/beneits that really are in place for ADOS.
So, its not saying they wont acheive - of course they will - they usually have already proven that. And yes, many come from homes whose parents also hold advanced degrees and have a HHI than most ADOS.
But their placrment in those spots meant for ADOS does indeed stop a ADOS from being considered and being accepted.
These institutions know what they are doing and many non-ados know too - and dont care.
On the assumption that its not a mass number of ADOS trying to get higher degrees - I don't buy it and I would like to see stats.
If that was true, all these "weekend,"smaller/local and online grad schools would not be filled with ADOS. Cause they are.
I am sure its just as many ADOS as non-ADOS in this country trying to attain higher education and do.
But, if spots are being taken - and non-ados who dont have debt - or countries allow free higher education are knowingly allowing themselves to be placed ahead of ADOS it needs to be checked.
