$4.5 million is a lot of money but after taxes it ain't a lot of money. It's enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life but you not really breaking people off with that type of money. If you invest it competently you can generate enough income with it to never work again. You probably losing about half to taxes so you 2 and a quarter million left. Take half a million and get a house, take the quarter million and get a car and furnish the home. Take the remaining $1.5 million and use $1 million to buy some safe as hell dividend producing stock or stocks like Johnson and Johnson and the last half a million invest it however.

if you're relatively young (45-), you still gotta be smart to retire comfortably on that right now. Most I would ever do is donate a small piece to a charity/foundation of the forums choosing. thats it
