Only one of us worked at Roc and Def Jam though.

Jay-Z singlehandedly financed the budget for most - if not all - the Roc-A-Fella releases via Def Jam. Dame would rather have his artists appear on a commercial promoting RocBox instead of their own music.

Jay-Z has no obligation to gifting singles or features for any of those artists though. If they were reliant on Jay features, that would effectively mean the album ain't nothing. They gotta hold their own. Just ask 50 why none of his G-Unit cohorts did anything after he stopped taking care of them.

Jay doesn't need to waste his time with marketing. That's Dame's job - the job he failed to do. Jay was a business from the moment he stepped foot into the game. He outsourced the marketing function correctly to Def Jam and they handled his business.

Def Jam didn't do any marketing for Rocafella.

Marketing was handled in-house at Roc. The Def Jam deal was a P&D agreement. They didn't oversee anything other than that, other than packaging and print. Roc had its own team for marketing.

That was Dame Job. Why didn't he say Biggs was a bad marketer?

they all had roles... Jay was an artist and a co-founder. Dame was the one doing marketing :skip:
Didn’t dame just say Jay worked for him?

And he is the CEO?

Why didn’t dame MAKE Jay do what he wanted to get the rest of HIS artists to grow?

I guess Jay didn’t bring the entire state property to hot97 with flex

(Some of them was unsigned)

To spit on live radio and he said he will pay the FCC so they can curse????

That’s didn’t happen?? :dahell:

I’m guessing Jay was not using his connections to get those features on state prop songs?

You think beans on his first album was able to call Scarface and say let’s do a few songs?

Or freeway call snoop Nelly and Mariah Carrey on his first album?

None of that happened?

Matter of fact they even said they was dropped without paying the label any money they owed

O even said it wouldn’t be a state property without it

But I bet that was all dame that did that

I think they wanted to be buddy buddy with Jay and Jay don’t move like that and don’t let people in his real circle

Yall gotta stop just jumping on dude and click the clip, lol. He was actually correcting the interviewer, who mentioned Jay-z, assuming he’s a great marketer.

Nigs used to do the same with 50 and getting shot… “he has to stop talking about that!!”, bro, he’s just responding to what he’s being asked, he’s not the one bringing it up. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Idk if Dame himself brings up Jayz sometimes or not…but I know every time I’ve seen him speak on him, for the most part, he’s responding to what someone else is asking/saying about Jayz

Crab shyt. And I fw Oschino but this is a classic case of someone who could never be in Jay’s position, trying to tell people what they would do and how easy it is.

Yea, Jay didn’t use the 50 approach. But Jay ain’t 50. Jay didn’t get on by name dropping the industry. Jay didn’t get on by getting shot 9 times. Jay didn’t get on by leeching onto the bigger artist and beefing. So 50’s approach is 50’s approach that’s not gonna work for everyone.

But the double standards tho :scust:Where is Nature, where Jungle, where is Cormega. Why didn’t Lil Cease become the next big star. Yall never apply these standards to other artists. And that was they man’s from the same block. Jay just SIGNED these nggas :gucci:

Lastly jay did the same formula of jumping on features for other artists and it DID work: Rihanna w/ Umbrella, Pharrell got a deal off Frontin :mjtf: Jay can’t control what the public goes toward. Like I don’t care how many singles he hop on Neef Buck was never gonna make it ngga

Yea now I’m mad lol Jay had these nggas on SNL, had the whole world reciting ‘he’s only 16!’ listening to NY radio, and like @ajnapoleon said this ngga Freeway HAD A MARIAH CAREY FEATURE :mjtf:

Oh and then after the breakup freeway had a album co-exec producer by Jay z and 50 Cent :gucci:

And my favorite lil anecdote in music history is when R&b artists wanted to break in they piggybacked off the hot rappers at the time, so when Chris brown wanted to break in who was on his very first single??Juelz Santana. Jay was head of jam he had to sign off on that. Neyo. When he wanted to break in who was on his debut single? Peedi Crack. Jay had to sign off on that? Foh. He gave these nggas cp3 Magic Johnson level alleys and they didn’t do nothing with it Foh

Breh you not seeing it

They wanted jay to be buddy buddy

He is not that way

Beans said it himself Jay not into that

O said “damn beans is your little brother why don’t you look out for him?” Meaning make sure he have money

Jay NEVER said beans is his little brother

The only person he would go that far for is bleek and he known bleek since pampers bleek sister is best friends with jays sister

Your not gonna come in after Jay is around 28 and think your gonna be in that group

But I thought dame was supposed to be promoting the roc Jay did verses some vids etc…

It’s crazy you would think dame would have left Jay early if he was such a bad person not the godfather to his kid

:dahell:

Remember Jay did songs with the man that “raped his girl” 🤔

Why is he the godfather to your kid and kept that title and still bytching about it

50 Cent is an anomaly. An artist/exec/master marketer is exceedingly rare to the point of being irrelevant to comparison

And everything you're blaming Jay for was Dame's job
If it was Dame's job, and Jay refused to do anything asked in that regard, he just made Dame's job harder.

Dame said he was the best promoter

That’s dame job to do right?

Plus he himself said “Jay was just the artist and Jay worked for him because he was the CEO”

Which make it even more fukked up “his artist took all his business away

:ehh:
