Bleek - 2 Gold albums
Beanie Sigel - 1 Gold Album
DJ Clue - 1 Platinum, and 2 Gold albums

Dude appeared all over the above albums, and in videos for them. He did the same for other artists who didn’t sell as much such as Freeway (Gold assisted single), Young Gunz, and Amil. He also took them on tour with him, and featured them on his multi platinum albums and singles.

That doesn’t look like marketing from afar at all.
Bleek- Lead Single Memph Bleek Iz
Beanie Sigel- Lead Single The Truth (Jay Z lazily threw a throwaway knockoff Hard Knock Life track solo track on it :comeon:)

DJ Clue- Had his own movement and Jay never gave him a single on the 1st tape (just some throwaway track with Ja Rule)

compare that to

Banks- 1st single On fire (song with a video with 50)= Double platinum

Buck- 1st single Let me In (song with a video with 50)= Platinum

Game- 1st single Westside Story , 2nd hate it or Love it (2 songs and videos with 50)= Triple Platinum

Yayo- 1st single So seductive (song and video with 50) = Platinum

album cuts dont matter if you've done nothing to make the audience want to buy the album :francis:

If you gon fault Jay for the washed up artist that got left behind on Def Jam then you have to give Jay credit for the rising talent at that time. Jeezy, Ross, Rhianna, Neo which were all highly successful. Can’t have it both ways.
Did you even read my post?

“He gets credit for his successes but his failures are ignored”

Whos having it both ways?

Washed up artists?

Ghost dropped his best project in years with fishscale, his second album on def jam, got super love that year for it… they used it to push a video single for neyo, sold the album for 7 bucks and then dropped a followup the same year with close to zero promo and then another one the next year with none again.

Method man one of their more successful artists drops his best album since tical that all his fans love, NO VIDEO, and still was a top 10 billboard debut. Someone explain to me how a guy with a hit movie and prime time tv show, isnt being promoted. He said they treated him like a nobody mixtape rapper signee. He had to goto lyor over it.

Dmx redman, etc have their own stories. I use these 2 because both these albums were fire and FS considered onenof best of the year and noone from that 90s era dropped anything hotter including jay.

Jay z Kingdom come trash ass album tho… maddddd promo.

Crab shyt. And I fw Oschino but this is a classic case of someone who could never be in Jay’s position, trying to tell people what they would do and how easy it is.

Yea, Jay didn’t use the 50 approach. But Jay ain’t 50. Jay didn’t get on by name dropping the industry. Jay didn’t get on by getting shot 9 times. Jay didn’t get on by leeching onto the bigger artist and beefing. So 50’s approach is 50’s approach that’s not gonna work for everyone.

But the double standards tho :scust:Where is Nature, where Jungle, where is Cormega. Why didn’t Lil Cease become the next big star. Yall never apply these standards to other artists. And that was they man’s from the same block. Jay just SIGNED these nggas :gucci:

Lastly jay did the same formula of jumping on features for other artists and it DID work: Rihanna w/ Umbrella, Pharrell got a deal off Frontin :mjtf: Jay can’t control what the public goes toward. Like I don’t care how many singles he hop on Neef Buck was never gonna make it ngga
Jay Z arrogantly/lazily threw his own singles on his Artist's albums rather than publicly get behind them... Stop It :beli:

Yall like to pick and choose when deciding who qualified as someone’s artist. If Banks and them are 50’s artist then Kanye is Jay’s artist. 1 Kanye >>>> a million Halloween Havocs ngga :beli:

What the hell was Dame there for then?

If I was an artist I would prefer Jay’s take on it over 50’s to be honest. 50 was all up in the nikkas videos…dancing. Had them nikkas basically on some “hey Banks can I speak to 50?” Image with people. Not a single one of them did anything without him as a result. 50 called it work ethic but it was marketing backfiring. For what little Jay did all of his artists ate without him to some degree. Beanie made the best album of his career after the Roc split.

so I illustrated 50's first 4 artist hitting off the rip with a perfected formula and you pull Kanye out your ass who was like the 8th artist to release on the Roc and got popular on his own

Jay z Kingdom come trash ass album tho… maddddd promo.

1- you’re recklessly ignoring a tiny little piece of information which is the overall death of the music industry. :mjtf: Like what type of shyt are yall on right now. :heh: Yea it’s jay-z’s fault people stopped buying albums

2- ‘Kingdom come got maaaaad promo’. Yea, bc he’s jay z :what: Just goofy. You’d never say ‘oooh so 50 got a vitamin water deal why Banks ain’t get a vitamin water deal’ :gucci:

If Method man or LL got that type of deal/promo for their obscure Patrick Ewing on the Sonics ass albums they’d still be paying Def jam and Budweiser back right now. The labels never woulda recouped. Stop it

Gary is my OG, so I can always speak on what he says.

What him and Dame are speaking about, is true. Jay's thing was always just to make the records. He would record nonstop. Kanye and Cam would have whole marketing plans drawn up and ready to present in meetings. "I want this to be like this, and this to be like this and I have an idea for this." Jay wasn't like that. People who were around back then, all know that.

Jay let other people handle the marketing and rollouts. So what Dame is saying is true. He just sounds mad when he's saying it, lol. But it's still facts. For the WTT album, that was all Kanye's vision and how he felt the rollout should go. Dude would have artwork ideas and photoshoot concepts, the whole thing. Jay's never been that kind of person. He'll have people around him for that. Back in the day, that person was Dame. He was the idea man. Jay was the rapper.

Jay is actually one of the greatest marketers of all time. Dude’s had genius level marketing campaigns.
