I wonder when this trend became a thing. Just for historical reasons/curiosity. Maybe the Biggie/Jay mid 90's era? It got really bad in the 2000's, and then in the 2010's it seemed to start to not be so over the top...and now days it seems the producer/rapper collab model is back in full effect.

Without research probably the end of the 2000s.

Timbo having Danja working with him...all these producers got protégé and shyt with them nowadays.

Kanye with Travis Scott ...etc

I found the first half to be really boring but it picked up in the second half. Much prefer Elephants On Acid but the last 5 tracks of this would have been a strong EP.
