People will scoff at the idea, then guilt watch it and then like it and then hate on it by season 3 or 4....just like every other CW show

Oh yeah and the fandom will be annoying and ship the characters and hate ones who interfer in their shipping....just like every other CW Show

The CW has just cast Ross Butler, Daniel Yang and Cody Kearsley to play Reggie, Dilton, and Moose in its Archie-based show "Riverdale."

The CW has been gradually adding members to its "Riverdale" cast over the last weeks. According to The Wrap, Ross Butler, Daniel Yang and Cody Kearsley are the newest members to join the show, which will be shooting its pilot soon.

Ross Butler will play Reggie Mantle, Archie's longtime nemesis and town prankster. Daniel Yang will portray Dilton Doiley, typically the smartest kid in town. Cody Kearsley will take on the roll of Moose Mason, who is considered the biggest jock at Riverdale High.

Butler, Yang, and Kearsley join previously cast Luke Perry, KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes,Cole Sprouse, Marisol Nichols, and Madchen Amick.

"Riverdale" is set to be a dark series based on the world of "Archie Comics." "Riverdale" is currently in the pilot phase and could air in the fall if it gets picked up by The CW. "Riverdale" is executiveproduced by Greg Berlanti, who currently produces "Arrow," "The Flash," and "Supergirl."

Archie Comics has released the first image of K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews in the upcoming Riverdale TV series.

Apa is sporting the character’s signature red hair, but his appearance seems mostly informed by the modern take seen in the rebooted Archie series launched Mark Waid and Fiona Staples.

The Riverdale pilot is being developed for the CW for the fall 2016 season. The pilot is being written by Archie Comics CCO Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and executive produced by Greg Berlanti of The Flashand Supergirl fame. The teen drama is said to put a modern and subversive spin on the classic characters.

It's offcial:

It is probably time to change the CW moniker to GB for Greg Berlanti who will have five series on the network next season. The CW has given a series order to the Berlanti-produced Riverdale, which will join his superhero quartet of The Flash, Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl, newly relocated to the CW from CBS for next season. Riverdale is one of three pilots picked up to series by the CW, along with Frequency and No Tomorrow.

Based on the Archie Comics characters, Riverdale, from WBTV, has been the clear frontrunner among this year’s crop of CW pilots. Originally developed at Fox last season, when it did not go to pilot, the project sailed through development and production, with the pilot getting high marks.

We have a repeat of 2014, when the network picked up a comic-based drama from Greg Berlanti (Flash) and a telenovela adaptation produced by Ben Silverman and directed by Brad Silberling (Jane the Virgin). This time, the project is No Tomorrow, based on a Brazilian format. Like Jane the Virgin, the project comes from CBS TV Studios.

I hear it came down to the wire for the third slot, with Frequency and Kevin Williamson’s paranormal drama in contention, both from WBTV. Frequency, based on the New Line movie, is more lucrative for the studio as the project, like Riverdale, is based on company-owned IP and will remain solely owned, not become a co-production with CBS TV Studios. This marks the second series pickup for Lin Pictures, which also has the Lethal Weapon remake at Fox.

Here are details about the CW’s newly picked up series:

RIVERDALE
Set in present day and based on the iconic Archie Comics characters, “Riverdale” is a surprising and subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends, exploring the surrealism of small town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade.
Executive Producer / Writer: Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (“Supergirl,” “Glee”)
Executive Producers: Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”), Sarah Schechter (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”), Jon Goldwater (Archie Comics)
Director: Lee Toland Krieger
Auspices: Warner Bros. Television / Berlanti Productions
Cast: Lili Reinhart (“Surviving Jack”), Cole Sprouse (“The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”), Ashleigh Murray (newcomer), Luke Perry (“Beverly Hills, 90210”, “Jesse Stone”), KJ Apa (“Shortland Street”), Madelaine Petsch (newcomer), Camila Mendes (newcomer), Marisol Nichols (“GCB”), Mädchen Amick (“Twin Peaks”)

i heard the current comic is kinda dark or atleast more adult

Yeah, I've heard that too. I'm hoping they stick to older shyt that you read in the digest & double digest books. That's what I grew up reading.

They've got books that cater to everyone. They have the usual line they've always had for the younger crowd, but then also adult-oriented books dealing with married life, zombies, and the death of Archie.

Afterlife with Archie and Sabrina the Teenage Witch are really good horror comics.
