It’s more like the rest sound like this. You gotta realize this is over 10 years old. Currensy was barely known and had only really done Pilot Talk 1 and 2.

This was fresh and unheard of back then. At this point too, Alchemist was still doing 80% New York beats for Mobb, Lox, Wu, and G-Unit, with some west coast Snoop and Dilated in the mix.

No one expected a collab like this, and Alchemist beats never sounded psychedelic back then. This was really new territory for both guys to collab, and Al was just getting into weirder drugs and inspired by hanging with Madlib and Oh No, but he hadn’t gone off the deep end either.

This was also a LOT of people’s introduction to Freddie Gibbs.

I’d never expect anyone to really catch Covert Coup in 2021. It was a product of the blog era of hip-hop. 2 random ass cats collaborating that wouldn’t be seen as weird now days. Covert Coup was a stoner version of Madvillainy.

Covert Coup was so different from the airy vibes that pilot talks 1 and 2 provided. And was a departure from his typical sneaker head jazzy raps he had on This Aint no Mixtape and Jet files.

this. the vibe of Covert Coupe was harder and more aggressive than anything Spitta had put out previously. Songs like Scottie Pippens, BBS, Blood Sweat and Gears had such a gritty feel to them that was unheard of before. Alc really brought out a side of him unseen at that point. Just like Harry Fraud with "Cigarette Boats" brought this Reflective Miami Drug Kingpin feel to Spittas music.

I always thought Double 07 sounded kind of sinister too. Might be my favorite joint on there.

@TheDarceKnight man the way you describing it is like taking the thoughts outta my head. That’s exactly how it was when this dropped. Been following spitta since the month after month series. Covert was when I first thought, damn Currensy kinda mean on this. “She like why she even here with you.” The tone he said that in was disrespectful. “If you don’t know where to put it at then don’t ride with it.” He delivered these lines with a tone he hadn’t really used before. Like he was frustrated.

Also, would anyone like to point me to a Gibbs verse that’s better than Scottie Pippens or Stash House? You can send it to my inbox

I always looked at stoned immaculate that way.
You’re right I should have said best commercial album he made. Stoned felt like a paint by numbers album, but New Jet City at that time felt like he could of dropped it on a major and it would of sold. He had single worthy songs with French and Ross, and it had a great Jada verse.

Also had a great Juicy verse. I see what you mean. Out of all his commercial sounding projects, New Jet is the best overall. It’s hard for me to say that though because Stoned probably has one of Spitta’s best songs (showroom)

The only thing that annoys me about Stoned Immaculate is that Wale is the first voice I hear on Curren$y's major label debut. That's just me being nitpicky but it still grinds my gears

I’m in the minority of this but I thought Wale did a good job with that verse. With that said, I saw a clip of them recording the record together in the studio. Spitta lowkey seemed annoyed with Wale because Wale started acting goofy on these drums in the studio. Spitta was rolling weed with the :beli: face

Juve had a great verse too and that was the last time I heard him on a tape too.

@Monoblock

Here’s the video. Around the 2:30min mark. I may have misjudged it. I watched it when it was uploaded and that was kinda my thought. I was a Wale fan then but maybe I just thought he seemed annoying
