i failed a weekend class i paid hundreds for because of the L train a couple years ago
i would take the l it would be delayed running in 2 parts take like 45 mins to come
then the a and c would skip my stop cause of delays then id have to wait another 45 for another train
would get to class 2 hours late every time it was an early class so if i left earlier it wouldnt have made a difference smh

The first one was a pretty good read. I'll have to read them both in depth later. I was reading about Japan's transit system and how it operates. It was state run, but they were running into delays, blowing through budgets, and not bringing in much money. So they decided to privatize the system and I think it's all run by six different companies. IIRC, it's kept profitable, and affordable, because those companies own the real estate surrounding the rail stations, which ends up pretty much subsidizing the system.
