The guy who got shot should have dipped the second Kyle got the gun, and the Mother and Step Father have ruined their family over petty shyt. No threat of bodily harm, and certainly no thread of deadly force.
And he was invited onto the property to pick up his son, nothing clear about "self-defense" here, and this is part of why the American public is so misled about "self-defense." You can't just shoot someone without some kind of impending physical harm.

He's probably grown-up around other cacs pulling their guns out for years, most of the time there is no intent on utilizing the gun - particularly over small spats.

This. That first shot screwed up any self defense claims. Green shirt was stupid, but legally justified in going for the gun. Laws have to make an example, as even conservative-declaring folks are finding a problem with this.

I don’t know Texas law on this well enough, but the guy with the gun escalated that situation to the point he could shoot the other guy.
